Solved No sound in messenger

new Lenovo laptop with windows 11 pro, version 22H2, build 22621.1413, just had a family video using messenger, picture fine but can't get the sound to work, I can hear other callers but they cannot hear me, checked settings and only sound option says "Realtek (R) audio" and volume shown as 100%, taskbar sound shown as 100%, messenger settings look fine so I am apparently missing something, two screenshots attached, all help and advice regarding this will be appreciated especially as wife uses laptop for zoom calls on a weekly basis

Check your Mic settings,

also check you app settings in 'installed apps'.

thank you Fabler2, I have checked all sounds and they appear fine although I could not find the picture you have displayed, system, sounds, properties

no idea on what I have done but picture/sound & mike in messenger but sound only in zoom although camera is shown as connected and video icon does not have a line through it

In settings go to system - sound and click on the arrow to right of microphone to adjust input volume and test mic.

thank you Fabler2, found that, tried the test at different levels, I have the volume level on the speakers up, should I hear the test results?

Yes. Run the play sample. My input volume is quite high usually.

You can also go to System - sound and scroll down to 'More sound settings' to check various settings the old way if you want.

If you select the properties tab in the old sound properties window then select the 'Levels' tab you can also adjust the volume and also the 'Boost' if necessary.

I'm on the Canary channel so what shows for you when you test the mic?

when I test the mike, it shows about 7% but no other option, sorry no idea on the Canany channel

OK. I've gone back to build 22621 and there is no playback to listen to. Must be a new feature to come. I've got 10% showing as test result and sound properties shows the audio working on the level indicator. So Windows recognises the mic and it's working. It looks like the messenger app issue? I never play with the actual App settings but leave as default and let Windows control it. My only suggestion is to uninstall the messenger app then go back to Ms Store and reinstall it and setup again. Won't hurt to reboot before reinstalling.

EDIT,

Just for info - if you want to test the microphone and hear the playback use the sound recorder app, it's in the all apps list. Recordings saved in the Documents folder.

works great, recording of tv in the background, sound loud and clear waiting to try messenger and zoon, have to wait until somebody available

Fabler2, just an update, I finally managed to get a zoom meeting tonight, and also had a couple of messenger calls and all is working fine, I can see and be seen, hear and be heard, I appreciate all your time, help and advice, again many thanks
