Solved Non manufacturer batteries - are they ok?

Am also having to learn to walk again! And do physio umpteen times a day. Well not learn, but build up to walking again but it's very slow progress.

There is nothing 10" and my eyesight struggles with that. But some 11.6" ones. Tried an ex education 11.6" one with a slow i5 and it was fine but the screen was terrible - so that went back.

Probably not. I messed that all up. All of my computers are windows 11 capable, however, I don't think they will go beyond 24H2. I may need to save my pennies to get at least one that will run Windows 12 and beyond.

Sorry yes I meant a 3rd generation would run windows 11 unofficially, not officially.

Officially it's 8th generation onwards.

Ok. I'm not paying £250 for a 10 year old laptop with no battery

Even if it is core i7 with a touchscreen. I've bought the £100 Core i5 one and will get a new duracell battery (after seeing what battery it's shipped with).

If you take the smart approach, Hazel, never leave your Laptop plugged into the mains , charging when you’re sleeping or not home. But that goes for anything. You’ll be fine.

I've actually just bought an oem battery on ebay for it - genuine hp - says it has life in it ha ha. Hopefully it'll have a couple of hours on it at least.

Every Core i3/i5/i7 from the 1st generation on has SSE4.2 and can run 24H2. My System Two runs 24H2 in its 1st gen i5.
It's the older (but confusingly named) Core 2 processors that lack SSE4.2.

In that case I might dig out the HP Pavilion DM4 with 1st Generation core i5 and install it on that as well then

There used to be companies that rebuilt OEM battery packs. I had some of my cordless power tool packs rebuilt & they are still going strong.

And they offered a guarantee!

I suppose, they're a lottery (you might find one that lasts you long enough - or one that explodes). To be fair - i've seen swollen batteries even on Apple laptops, but they do last longer and - you actually get what says on the label (capacity wise). More often than not - No-Name batteries have lower capacity than stated - and get drained faster (or even worst, below 50% - they drain in minutes).

Batteries are very much dependent on quality of materials and construction.

There are many cheap "compatible" iffy batteries available which are poor quality resulting in a short life of a few months, maybe other defects.

Reviews are problematic as they are done after a short time, not 4 years down the line.

"I'm looking at a used HP Elitebook Revolve 810 G3. He wants £320 for it and it's 10 years old! Been trying to get the price down. Says he'll go down to £250 without the battery and without the ssd (ie I get my own battery and ssd). I asked for a lower price saying I already have an ssd."

A royal rip-off, My old laptop is of that age 16 GB RAM and to be honest on it's last legs. I might give it away for nowt. It would be dishonest to charge anything.
e.g. the display panel has aging white backlight LEDS on the right side resulting in a slightly different colour temperature. On it's 3rd keyboard.

There is virtually no performance difference between an i5 and i7, same cannot be said for Intel's pricing.

It's old! And only as a spare occasional laptop.
