I have been getting popups from AGV, McAfee and Avast
Graham,

Those are browser popups trying to tempt you into clicking on them. They don't know the first thing about what is or is not on your computer.

If the message is via Edge or another browser then it is suspicious, you should backup your favourites then close Edge/browser, either by clicking on the X, by ctrl, alt del & then open task manager & find Edge/other browser entry & click on this & choose end task.
Then open Edge/other browser & it will offer to start afresh, you can then clean the browser’s cache, cookies & history.
If this isn’t enough you can reset Edge by Right-click on the Start button in the lower-left corner and select “Apps and Features “.
Scroll through the list until you find “Microsoft Edge”, click it, and then click on the “Advanced options” link.
Next, click on the “Reset” button.
For other browsers then they also may have a reset feature, if not then you can uninstall & reinstall the browser.

What do you mean 'no sign of apps and features' on right clicking the start menu? How did you uninstall - reinstall Edge? In Windows settings Apps -installed Apps you can only repair Edge.

fmGRtMgJDR.png

That will not get rid of your settings.
If you don't want to follow my first suggestion (useful if you want to be selective on what to remove) then try going Edge settings -Privacy, search and services -clear browsing data - choose what to clear - that will open a box of settings. Select All Time in the time range box then select cookies and other site data - cashed images and files - and scroll down to Site permissions. Select clear now. Close and reopen Edge. See if that helps.

As a working PC tech, I had three often used programs on my Utilities Flash Drive.
1. Norton Removal Tool
2. AVG Removal Tool
3. McAfee Removal tool
And of equal importance, but seldom used anymore, the AOL Removal tool.

Back in the day, it was a common thread, among PC Tech's, "to really bog down your PC, just install Norton".
None of the above have any place in my own PC, or the PC's of my friends and family, and never will.

Happy 4th!

Graham,

I'm glad it has been resolved.
You did not need to say sorry for anything. This is a user-to-user forum and there's a very wide range of expertise amongst members.

All the best,
Denis

Oh, and a belated welcome to ElevenForum.

It's really worth making time to browse through the ElevenForums Tutorial index - there's a shortcut to it at the top of every ElevenForum page [within the Tutorials dropdown list].
- At the foot of the ElevenForum Tutorial index is a shortcut to download it as a spreadsheet.
- I download a new copy each month.
- By downloading it as a spreadsheet I can benefit from Excel's excellent filtering capabilities when I search for topics of interest.
- ElevenForum tutorials are also listed at Tutorials and there's a shortcut to that at the top of every page.

You can search ElevenForum using the search box in the top-right corner of all ElevenForum webpages or using Advanced Search - ElevenForum
- You can also search ElevenForum threads in many general search engines, such as Google, by adding site:elevenforum.com after your search term. For example,
Taskbar setup site:elevenforum.com
- [This is what the search box in the top-right corner of ElevenForum webpages does automatically]
