Solved Not a problem; a PUZZLE; Administrative Tools is in All apps list on One PC

In All Apps list, the only folders I expect to see are the ones I've created. That's true for all except this one. On my upgraded machine, I can't seem to get rid of Administrative Tools in the All apps list, but on the clean install machine, it doesn't show up. Both the ProgramData ... Programs folders have the Admin Tools folder; they both have the Windows Power Shell folder, too, but that folder (which I did NOT create) doesn't show up in All apps on either machine. I have tried seven ways to Sunday to get rid of the Admin Tools folder in All Apps, and I've failed.

It doesn't merit any concerted effort, but it's a puzzle I'd like to solve. Disappear, Administrative Tools !!!

Hello mate,

You should be able to remove the "Administrative Tools" folder using the options in the tutorial below. You'll have to check each option to see if the folder may be included in them to remove.

Okay, mate, but here's the thing: that doesn't work for me because I have Windows Tools in my Start menu, and the shortcut for Windows Tools accesses ProgramData ... Programs\Administrative Tools. I need to have a shortcut in the Start Menu that doesn't reference the Admin Tools folder in ProgramData. If I just delete Admin Tools from the ProgData ... folder, I lose my access in the Start menu to Windows Tools.

You don't want to delete the folder from the source. Only from the Start Menu\Programs folder in the tutorial.

You could use a shortcut of the folder with a name of "Windows Tools" instead of using the "Administrative Tools" name.

Hi,
Lots of little bugs I'd image install to install
Some show up on all and some new ones appear

On same 11 iso on forth system q9550 after doing same stuff as three other builds
Went to run trim on 860 evo 500gb and once I selected C partition two C partitions showed up lol
And it repeated after selecting reserve partition to lol

Needless to say trim did not happen on either showed never ran :lmao:

Just to verify, do you have a Windows Tools shortcut in your account's folder below?

%AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

If not, here's a copy from my system you can test with:

Well, mother-love-a-duck! I created a folder called Windows Tools, copied all of the contents of Administrative Tools to that folder, deleted Administrative Tools, and Voila!

Probably. Glitches will be the death of us, if we don't watch out. I spent about two full hours trying to solve that bug, and your suggestion was just one of the ones I hadn't tried.

Yeah if an 11 update doesn't fix some really weird bugs I'd just redo the upgrade no telling what else is messed up.

Sorry I missed this earlier. Yes, I have that shortcut, but before I went to work on copying the Admin Tools contents to my newly created Win Tools folder and deleting the Admin Tools folder, that shortcut pointed to (of course) Administrative Tools in ProgDat ... Programs.

Since I finished the revision, I've discovered that my WinXMenuEditor throws an error because it can't find Administrative Tools. It works just fine if I re-create Admin Tools, copy the contents of Win Tools to it, use the WXEditor, and then delete the Admin Tools folder again to get it out of my All apps list. I won't be using WXEditor often enough to be concerned about this. I've got my WinX menu set up the way I want it now. And my All apps list shows only folders that I created and want there.

Of course, I still get annoyed every time I see Get Started in there, but (sigh) some things have to be lived with.

@Brink (JIC you're interested, and this might help somebody else, maybe)

Turned out I could fix both issues -- the appearance of Administrative Tools in the All apps list AND the malfunctioning of an editing program that requires the presence of Admin Tools in the Programs folder -- Easy Peasy:

After I created the Windows Tools folder and copied all of the shortcuts from Admin Tools to it, I left the Admin Tools folder in the Programs folder, but I only left one of the original shortcuts in it. That guaranteed that Admin Tools wouldn't show up in All apps, and it turned out that it satisfied the Win+X Menu Editor, because that program found Admin Tools where it was programmed to find it. Not terribly clever of me, but highly satisfying. Two figurative birds with one figurative stone.

If I wanted to use Win + X Menu Editor to add an Administrative Tools item to the WinX menu, I would first go to the Programs folder, copy the shortcut for the Tool I wanted from Windows Tools to Admin Tools, then open WinXMenEd and choose Add an Administrative Tool, and the program (WinX...) would then copy the shortcut's details from Admin Tools to the WinX menu. Once that was done, I'd close the WinX program, go back to Programs, and delete the shortcut from Admin Tools, so that Admin Tools would have only the one shortcut in it still, and be invisible in All apps.

This was just a P.S., to complete the thoughts in post #19 above.
