Not sure if this is right place - Motherboard replacement for my laptop?
I have a Dell inspiron 5406. I have 64gb of ram and 2tb ssd in it right now. The motherboard is slowly dying. I can get a replacement and keep on trucking as this laptop is like a pair of perfectly worn in jeans for me. We've been through many travels and project together. Do I just repair the laptop and keep going, or do I replace it with something else. The issue I have that most all new laptops require me to carry extra stuff while I can just grab my laptop now, and my camera and run and gun. No extra stuff because I have the sd reader in it.
Thoughts?

What makes you think your motherboard is "slowly dying"?
Generally, when motherboards die, they die pretty much instantly.

I am having intermittant issues like black screen on boot, I could be doing something and the the display will just show pixelated garbley gook (nice word right?) and freeze. I did a test and the ram socket is the issue I think. My ram tests fine.

I've seen that before. I would try making sure there's no microscopic dust in the RAM slots.
You can use a 1/4" artists brush with the bristles cut down to make them stiffer.
You can use a no. 2 pencil eraser on the RAM circuit board contacts as well.
Last of all make sure the RAM is fully seated.
You also might want to replace the CMOS battery, just in case.

I will give that a shot and see how it goes. Thanks btw.
