When using Notepad it seems to have some strange behavior. If I open a new text document it sometimes opens a previously open document instead of a blank one and sometimes it opens both. And when I close it, it does not close till I close it a second time. I dont recall it doing this when I first started using Wen-11 which I'm still only using intermittently but I'm trying to get in the habit of using it more. So . . . Do I need to use the old Notepad.exe app as described in the tutorials to cure this?

I want each notepad file to open in it's own window like the choice we have with file explorer

That's been some of the change with the new Notepad that has tabs and other new features with more to come, IMO seems to be getting closer to a word processor, maybe the replacement for the discontinued WordPad.

john1955, It’s a new save state feature. If you leave a Notepad file open when you close Notepad, it will save the state of that file and re open it when Notepad starts again. It can be handy for some people like me who forget to save their work. For others it is annoying.

I personally like the new Notepad and all of it’s features, but it is a personal choice, isn’t it!
The first and last link I gave you should work and if you decide to keep using it as it is, the second link can help you to disable the “Automatically Save Session”

With the new Notepad you have to click on the X close button on the tab for each open document to close it. When you do that you can either save changes or discard them. I find that useful at times but other times it is annoying.

Yeah and you might not want to interact with every open window just then . . . I'll try and fix it after supper.
