When select a line in notepad, drag cursor all the way to the end, it automatically add line break into selection.

I don't understand the logic here. I only select this line, cursor stays in this line, why would you add line break to the selection?

The logic should be if you move cursor to the beginning of next line while selecting, then you add line break.

I just never understand how some people are thinking.

Notepad++ does the same thing. If you stop your drag right at the edge of the last letter or character, instead of into empty space, you should not get a line break.

Turn on Word Wrap.
It has nothing to do with the line break in selection.

Create a new text file with Notepad, type anything so there is no extra stuff at the end of line. Click anywhere beyond the end of line, cursor will be at the end right after the last letter, you can't go beyond that point in this line with click or keyboard arrow key. But if you click and hold, drag selection all the way to the end of line, it will add an extra line break to the selection, looks like a space inside selection. Have to move cursor one position back to avoid copying the extra line break.

Drag from right to left instead of left to right.

If you drag accurately you will not get the CR. Be that L>R or R>L.
Too far and you get the CR.
If you select a line clicking in the left margin it does include a CR.

Using a monospaced font like Consolas makes it easier to select the text without a CR.

As others have said, you have to stop the selection at the last character shown, and not after it. Then you don't get the line break.

In Notepad++ I can drag left to right as far as I want..., only when I dip down to the next line does it pick up the line break.

Right to left depends on the accuracy of selection.

If the OP is using the Store version of Notepad, I haven't a clue!

That's the logic I'm talking about, I just don't get the thought behind windows 11 notepad adding line break to selection when cursor stays in the line.
