Nvidia thinks my PC does not belong to me any longer...

There is a new drivers set from Nvidia. Verison 577.00
I wanted to install it on Windows 11. I used to choose a folder of my own preference upto now for drivers extraction. But this version did not let me choose my own extraction folder.
Nvidia insisted on using C:\Windows\Temp.
I said "My PC, my choice." When I pointed Nvidia installer to my folder, which I have always used, Nvidia said NO. It said it could not create the folder, which was already there.
I stand suspicious. Does my PC really belong to me or Nvidia ?

Nvidia changed their installation a few builds back.
That is the way it is. No one forces you to update the driver.

Thanks. 7-zip extracted the Nvidia driver package to the folder of my choice. But I am still curious to know why Nvidia chose this path. The extracted size of Nvidia driver package is 3.28 GB, which is quite big.

That is not the way it was. I currently have 576.52, which did not insist on forcing me to install to C:\Windows\Temp. From now on I will not force myself to update the driver. Thanks for the good advice.

There’s usually a way to overcome this stuff. Screw Nvidia. I’ve always extracted Nvidia packages before install.
Just delete the folder when finished installing. You can always extract it again if need be

I have not heard of this piece of software. I used to extract Nvidia driver package by its own built-in extractor and opt for personalization of the driver installation. I was ticking "clean install" checkbox along with "drivers only" checkbox. I may have a look at that NVCleanstall. Thanks.

Default "Clean Install" will simply remove previous custom settings - tho, not as clean as
DDU . NVCleanstall is actually what it takes to do a clean install - in the sense - that you can manually deselect included features you don't use/need - while also seeing what's actually being installed (the complete features list).

I should have listened to Nvidia. Nvidia objected to my choosing my own extraction folder but I insisted.
The result is:
After restarting, I had this. My monitor had black bars on top and bottom:
Something must have radically changed inside the driver package.
I had a backup of my last Nvidia driver 576.52 and installed it. Everything has returned to normal.
From now on I will not argue with Nvidia, never ever.
