- fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.
UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.
I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

My SYSTEM SIX is a Dell Latitude 5550, Core Ultra 7 165H, 64GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, supported device, Windows 11 Pro 24H2, Hyper-V host machine. Updated to 25H2 on 30th September 2025.
My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine.

I have Office 2000 on a Win11 Notebook, works okay except I don't use its Outlook. I also installed the Compatibility Pack to gain use of files from Office 2007 and later [newer format identified by an x added to the extension as in .docx, xlsx, etc.].

Yes, it will, IF you use Outlook or any macros. If you don't use either I would not worry too much. This implies you keep Windows Defender or other antivirus updated and be careful what you click on. Not sure why I found this funny. Ofc2000 cost $449 in 2000, a good chunk of change if you paid that for it (which you probaably didn't because it could be installed using the same license key on all your computers, your family's computers, and your dog's computers. It was passed around with everyone back in the day).. Even if you did, You've used it for 25 yrs so that's $18 a yr, $1.50 a month, and a nickel a day. That might be the best purchase you ever made.

I've been trying to get Office XP running on Win 11 24H2. No luck. Programs start but then they die after a few seconds with no messages. I've tried everything I could think of or find on the Internet but no luck so far.
The only way I've gotten it to run is in a Virtual environment (Hyper-V or VMWare).

You probably do the common mistake to just doublee-click on setup to install. Wrong! These old applications expect full unrestricted access to system folders to copy data. So you must at least right-click on setup and select Run as Administrator. One step further is to right-click, go to Properties, then Compatibility tab and select Windows XP compatibility mode and always Run as Administrator. To make sure it also applies to TrustedInstaller user, I would set these for all users, not only mine. Then run Setup again. After installation I would set the compatibility to Windows XP and always Run as Administrator to every single application (Word, Excel etc), just in case, before using them.

Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint File Formats 4It's still available on the Internet. It may be referred to as File Converter, I got mine from CNET some time ago. Another choice I have full trust in is MajorGeeks.
Note the Compatibility Pack adds options to Word, Excel, and PowerPoint in Office 2000/XP/2003 to read/write .docx, .xlsx, and .pptx files.

Thanks. I know for sure I did all that... but I'm only 75% sure I ran the install as Administrator. I'll give that another shot.
EDIT: Hey ,thanks a million, it's working! I owe you a drink if you're ever in town... but my town is like 6000 miles from you, so if you're not here for a while, that's OK.
Just for kicks, before re-doing the install, I ran the programs again as Administrator. I am 100% sure that I tried that before, multiple times, and it didn't work. However, that was before I applied a half dozen Office XP updates a couple days ago. Maybe that helped. Maybe some other system update helped. Who knows.
Perhaps the Gods are just looking favorably me today, but they all run now. Not only that, but once I ran them with Admin privs, they can just be run without it. No need to choose Admin. There must have been something that they were trying to set in the initial run that they could not set without Admin privs. Again, I tried that before, but now it's working.
I'm going to reboot now - if I have to run-once with Admin priv's after boot, I'll update this post to reflect that. But otherwise, it's done!
EDIT 2: No need to run as Admin every day. Works fine once the in initial run is done. Must be something general in Office that needs to be set as I did not run Powerpoint with Admin, but that's working too.

Silver lining to this debacle - I learned how to use Hyper-V and VMware along the way, so it's all good. LOL.

It's still available on the Internet. It may be referred to as File Converter, I got mine from CNET some time ago. Another choice I have full trust in is MajorGeeks.
Yeah... that's my port of last resort. I've never had a problem with either, but you know...
I was hoping for the KB # as you can often find things through the web archive that MS is no longer offering. I'll try one of those two and then search based on what they offer.

- fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.
UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.
I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.
