Office 2024 - keeps reverting to Office 2021

So - no solution to this.

I've been on with Microsoft support and remote access. They tried all the things I'd already tried, plus using cmd a few times. At first he thought it was remnants of the 2021 licence somewhere, but that wasn't there. It got uninstalled and reinstalled a few times, AV turned off, 64 bit installed instead of 32 bit. Still no result. Told it was a unique situation. I said it seems quite common online. Escalated to a higher level where they said it needs all registry entries for 2021 removing. At that point remote access was going to install revo - but I already have that installed. Although I haven't tried uninstalling with revo yet, I'm aware from the other thread that that doesn't work either.

What I wanted to know was whether it was something on the computer, or the microsoft account installing both licences. He said it wasn't the licence end, and it wasn't possible to remove Office 2021 from my downloads.

So the upshot is, a clean install would fix it. As I don't want to do a clean install right now, and Office 2021 is still supported until October 2026, I've cancelled Office 2024 and had a refund.

I've changed the title of this thread, because the Microsoft 365 thing was irrelevant - seems to be just what Office is called now. The issue is Office 2024 reverts to Office 2021.

I suspect it's something to do with have Office 2021 Professional pro plus installed perhaps.

Try deploying Office 2024 Home and Student version using Office Tool Plus. Then while logging in, select the account with which you bought the license or input the Product Key if you got that.
Thank you - I think something like that was already tried during remote access with Microsoft. The issue seems to be remnants of 2021 being left on computer in the registry - maybe.

It can't be that as I had MSO 2021 installed prior to installing 2024.
I used a configuration.xml with the setup.exe

Code:
setup.exe /configure configuration.xml

And I got 2024 just fine.

Maybe because you installed the same version? I currently have Office 2021 Professional Pro Plus and was trying to install Office 2024 Home.

After Office 2024 was installed, there was no licence key for 2021 left installed but Account was showing both versions installed and it would revert to 2021 apps and in apps installed list. It has to be something in the registry.

What I find confusing is in C Drive under office it also mentions Office 2015 and Office 2016 (which I've never had!). I asked about that and got an answer I didn't quite understand.

Are you sure those are Office 2015 & 2016 folders?
I do have both:
C:\Program files\Microsoft\Microsoft Office\Office 16
&
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15
but not 2015 nor 2016.

Yes the same as you have Office 15 and Office 16. I assumed it meant 2015 and 2016 :-)

I ended up doing a clean install, buying office 2024 Home again from Microsoft and installing it. A bit time consuming but it’s done now and I needed a bit of a tidy up, plus I now have a “factory “ image of 24H2 to reinstall if needed.

Only recently I had deleted a couple of older images after making a recent one. But of course the recent one still had Office 2021 on. Unfortunately it seems one of the older images I deleted was my install set up image before programs! However it was probably on 23H2 anyway so there would have been a lot of updating. Hence the clean install. Anyway everything is tidied up now and no office issues.

Went fairly smoothly - and I had most program installers in my backed up downloads folder.

My new “factory install” images I’ve added KEEP in the file names!
