I just got my wife a Surface Pro 8 tablet that came with a trial of Office 365. Word is the only part of Office she uses so I see no particular reason for subscribing to Office 365. She uses Office 2019 on her laptop so I'll probably buy a copy of it or Office 2021. Do I just uninstall Office 365 and (buy and) install Office 20xx, or is there anything weird about the trial installation that will make me wait until the trial expires?

If it matters, the tablet is running Win11 21H2 build 22000.493.

No reason to wait. Since you only want Word and you only want to run on this one device, it makes sense to me to just get a Home and Student copy of Office. You will end up with Excel and Powerpoint as well as Word.

If word is the only function she uses that can run via the office app online for free.

Why replace it before trial ends?

I had a year's free trial on my HP laptop.

Why replace it before trial ends?
I have access to it now. My access will be hit and miss once my wife starts using the tablet regularly. Paying now vs paying at the end of the trial is still paying. The only reason I can think of for waiting would be if I could convince my wife that LibreOffice is just like Office. (And unfortunately it isn't quite.)
