Solved on Visual studio- basic 6, the service pack 6 won't install, anyone have a clue?

Followed the thread here below, I downloaded the sp6 from the way back machine

Installing MS Visual Studio 6, with SP5 and SP6 issues.-VBForums

On Windows 11, I'm attempting to install Microsoft Visual Studio 6 (need VB and VC), with both SP5 and SP6. I'm getting stuck installing SP5. It runs the installation, but ends with a message that it was not successful. I believe I've tweaked the install files so that it does not check for mdac...

According to them, it should install on 11

I was able to install visual basic 6 following this youtube guide.

Is there a specific reason for needing VB 6? It seems like a lot of work to put in an antiquated version of Visual Basic.

Visual Studio 2022 Community supports VB and VB.NET, is free, runs on 11, and the language is up to date. It might even be backwards compatible if you choose the right compile options.

Not critiquing, just curious...

Don't know if it runs complicated VB6 program using mysql database?
Does it?
Does it import a vb6 project properly? Mine has a lot of controls
Years ago I wrote one, and today wanted to look at the code again

well I have a VB6 project file extension VBP, and of course modern visual studio cant open it
unless it can be converted....

See here, nothing, a VB6 project file cannot be opened in visual studio as it's looking for a different extension name

I loaded the project into VB6 enterprise I installed earlier with no SP6
It loaded fine except for 2 controls, Tabctl32 and Msscnt control something, which I expected...

I do have a working win7 version with a working VB6, I can boot up on this PC

ok, getting vb6 to install properly now, next step restart and try the service pack
issue was vb6 install failed properly due to 2 ocx controls and a dll file not registering
tabctl32.ocx
mscomm32.ocx
vbprndlg.dl

This screen shows it installed properly

watch the youtube video closely. Also to stop MS java VM from installing wrongly, take out the reference in the vb6 setup ini file It is in the video
leave it in and the installer looks thru every drive taking forever to look for installed components and then installs a failed JVM which has to be manually deleted but leaves a reference to it in apps
