Onedrive is Driving Me Insane

Nope. Talking about the noobs that just want a PC to work. Run YT, Emails etc., and have absolutely no interest in how modern day Windows works. You think it's ok to have the default with OneDrive syncing during install with just a tiny text line to change it. Noobs will only click ok for everything during instillation just to get the new shiny machine working. They soon find out later with the warning that they're running out of space for adding more photos and won't understand why. That's my issue. It's ok for nerds who know it all but there are people who simply don't or even can't understand the workings of Windows and use default settings thinking everything is good. So we'll agree to disagree.
Absolutely. I often throw about an adage someone posted ages ago ... owning a computer is no longer a passive endeavour. If a user fails to recognise this and doesn't adjust and/or attempt to grasp what's now expected, then problems will occur.

Many of the inexperienced users just don't know there's another world outside Microsoft ... how many user think because Microsoft Office came with Windows, it's part of Windows. And often don't even realise it's a trial/demo/click-bait version, then just stumble along blindly and pay the money because Micrsoft said so, not realising it's cheaper elsewhere and/or there are other alternatives that suit their needs.

EDIT : I once had a client whose first contact with me was a call about when she opened up "Windows", the toolbar was missing at the top and the margins were all wrong. 15-20 mins on the phone proved fruitless so I made arrangements to come and check her computer out. She showed me how she started "Windows", that blue "W" icon on the taskbar !!!

How many of us have been asked to help because a computer is running slow only to find it bloatwared into oblivion, because that's what it came like. And then spyware/adware/demoware unlimited from trying to do their own thing with (frequently nefarious) 3rd party software that someone told them about.

These forums are discussions forums and it is often a consolation factor to the inexperienced that others had/are having the same problems and/or feel the same way of frustration about a product. And they often relish the advice that because it's there it's not compulsory to use it, and that there are alternatives.

With any disagreement, there are always valid points on both sides. In this one I will agree to disagree and move on.

Despite what some think, not everyone who comes here seeking help opposes change nor does he/she complain for the sake of complaining. I just read a new thread created today from someone wanting help on this same subject. I thought I'd jump in and give the same instructions I gave the poster of this thread (which solved his problem, by the way). Just as I was about to hit the 'post' button, it dawned on me that doing so would only be leaving the door open again for onedrive advocates to negate the validity of the OP's concern along with my response since I support what she wants to do.

Onedrive is probably the most contentious subject we get here. Since I am one of the most vocal opponents of it being forced on the user, I tend to get caught up in these exchanges that are neither fair to the thread starter nor beneficial in solving his issue which is what we are here for. These exchanges also tend to make me feel I'm thought of as being 'less' simply because my opinion differs from the opinions of others and I don't like the feeling. Therefore, it's best I not answer any more questions or give any opinion about Onedrive. It just ain't worth it.

BTW, if you've got files OneDrive can't sync, as I do (I know what the issue is and is fixable), you will be notified as I am.
@Dru2, I'm curious, what files do you have that OneDrive can't sync? I've maintained a synced 1TB cloud OneDrive for many years.

@TraderGary, To clarify (correct) my answer in post #32, the issue was a junction link (the links to the left of Windows Explorer) shortcut that was preventing the "Documents" folder from syncing, and NOT what I'd originally stated in said post.

Removing those shortcuts (Documents, Pictures, vides) cleared the issue. How they got there I have no idea (memory) but apparently, they were there when I created a backup which I then used to restore the contents back to the Documents folder after a clean install.

Initially I couldn’t find the file the message was talking about but when I asked Explores to show all hidden/protected files - untick the “Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)” box under Windows Explorer “Options” those links showed up, and I was able to remove them and clear the message without further issue. That’s the short of it, the longer version gets a bit more interesting.

For everyone else, NO… this isn’t a “OneDrive” issue, it’s simply how it’s always worked. It doesn’t sync/backup junction or symlinks. Nothing new. Just something I didn’t catch.

BTW, the notice alerting you of the issue also provides a link to open the folder with the problem files. When you open the folder from there the offending filles will be highlighted. Obviously, nothing will be highlighted if the files are hidden. So, if you can’t find a file OneDrive is complaining about, temp unhide stuff, and it may show up. Anyway, cleared the notice should I decide to back and sync those folders, which I'm not...

Isn't that amazing..., 3 bullet holes and the desktop background still survives!?!?!? :p

The bullets must have went right between the pixels and the circuit runs.
I used those special .2 caliber (.5mm), bullets.
I use one of those WD-40 straws for a gun barrel. :D
