Only one click to change focus and activate something?

Naw, there's still Office subscriptions.

Not really..., they own it, you just pay for the privilege of using it! ;-)
Suit yourself.

Like the new Win 11 context menu. At first I was like... wth?!? Why would anyone think that was an improvement.
Then I realized that MS probably did that for those with wildly smaller screens.
Those that might not want a seriously "long" context menu.
But actually it isn't smaller, since they use that stupid new double spacing, which they've also thrust on me in file manager (which used to be called windows explorer, which used to be called file manager) so I can't see so many files at once.

And, somethings they made larger for touch screens. Like on the Taskbar in Win 11, the icons are farther apart than they were on Win 10. And the same thing you noticed with File Explorer...

ROFL, if you've ever used a smartphone, needing things further apart on a full size touchscreen pales in comparison. Ever tried to operate google maps in a car? It's ridiculous. Cars move, your finger moves. It never guesses if it's a click or drag correctly. Even with the phone sat on a desk, at what point does a click become a drag? Everyone's fingers are different, more or less shaky. There seems to be no way to simply adjust this to "drag if move more than x pixels".

The inconsistency is annoying. The having to tell things to do something twice is annoying. Please tell me there's a tweak, some kind of third party program to sort this basic interface screwup.

Two programs, one in focus. Click on the one not in focus, it comes into focus, but doesn't react! I clicked a button in it, why didn't it react? Even worse, some do, and some don't! It's pure insanity, if I'm in a room of people I don't have to go and greet you first before I can ask you to close the door.

I've found wonderful programs to fix the taskbar, the file explorer, the start menu, even the way the mouse behaves across multiple monitors. Surely there must be a focus click fixer?
I understand your frustration with the inconsistent behavior of focus clicking in the interface. While there isn't a universal tweak or third-party program specifically designed to fix this issue, there are a few general suggestions you can try:

  1. Adjust focus settings: Windows does provide some focus-related settings that you can customize. Go to Settings > Ease of Access > Keyboard and explore options like "Underline keyboard shortcuts and access keys" or "Activate a window by hovering over it with the mouse." Experimenting with these settings may help improve your experience.
  2. Check for driver updates: Outdated or incompatible drivers can sometimes cause focus-related issues. Make sure your operating system and relevant device drivers, especially for your mouse and graphics card, are up to date. Visit the manufacturer's website or use driver update tools to ensure you have the latest versions.
  3. Use third-party window management tools: While there might not be a specific focus click fixer, there are third-party window management tools available that offer advanced features for managing windows, such as assigning specific behaviors or rules to certain applications or customizing focus-related settings. Examples include DisplayFusion, Actual Multiple Monitors, or WindowManager. These tools can provide more control and customization options for window behavior.
  4. Provide feedback to Microsoft: If you believe there is a consistent and widespread issue with focus clicking, it's worth reporting your concerns to Microsoft. Use the Feedback Hub application included with Windows 10 to submit feedback, detailing the specific issues you are encountering. Microsoft actively collects user feedback to improve the Windows experience and may address these concerns in future updates.
Remember that the behavior you are experiencing could also be application-specific, as each program handles focus differently. It's worth considering that the issue may lie with certain applications rather than the operating system itself. In such cases, reaching out to the developers of those specific applications and reporting the issue to them may be beneficial.
Overall, while there may not be a perfect fix for this particular frustration, exploring the suggestions above may help improve your experience with focus clicking and provide some customization options to address the inconsistency you're experiencing.

I don't have settings, ease of access. I do have settings, accessibility, which I assume is the same thing. But under keyboard there isn't "Activate a window by hovering over it with the mouse", and I don't think I'd want that anyway. Pushing the mouse cursor out of my way on app 1, I wouldn't want app 2 to go into focus. I have xmouse installed, which does all sorts of mouse things, but not the focusing. The author is considering if it would be possible to add it.

  1. Check for driver updates: Outdated or incompatible drivers can sometimes cause focus-related issues. Make sure your operating system and relevant device drivers, especially for your mouse and graphics card, are up to date. It's not faulty, I'm getting the designed behaviour, I just don't like it.

  1. Use third-party window management tools: While there might not be a specific focus click fixer, there are third-party window management tools available that offer advanced features for managing windows, such as assigning specific behaviors or rules to certain applications or customizing focus-related settings. I've tried displayfusion, it didn't do what I wanted, I did use it for a bit to stop the mouse snagging on edges of monitors, then realised it was just as annoying with that option on than off, but in a different way.

  1. Provide feedback to Microsoft: If you believe there is a consistent and widespread issue with focus clicking, it's worth reporting your concerns to Microsoft. Use the Feedback Hub application included with Windows 10 to submit feedback, detailing the specific issues you are encountering. Yeah.... I regularly do, and I'm sure millions of others do. I see no evidence they listen.

Remember that the behavior you are experiencing could also be application-specific, as each program handles focus differently. It's worth considering that the issue may lie with certain applications rather than the operating system itself. In such cases, reaching out to the developers of those specific applications and reporting the issue to them may be beneficial.

I think it's a general Microsoft thing, most of their programs (pretty much everything but notepad) have the focus problem. When I asked the author of a 3rd party program which also does it, he said it was the way it works if you compile with MS compilers, and didn't know a way to stop it.

I see you use MacOS, but are on elevenforum, so I guess you use both. Does the Mac do this with focusing?
