Hi Folks, I have some saved emails, they are in .EML format. When I try to open one, I get this everytime. Can you help in correcting it?
I am signed in to my Windows 11 Home with a MS account.

When I find it.
It appears you need an email client to open an EML file. Looks like you can use a web browser. Or send the file to Google Drive.

I'm a computer enthusiast so have quite a few systems that I run. More like an advanced hobby.

You do know that the .eml format is just a text file? You could just open it in Notepad.

Rename it with a .mht extension and you will open it in Edge.

For more complex emails (attachments, text formatting, images, etc.) there are online EML to PDF converters.

If you only have a few you need to open/convert than the trial version of the Advik EML Converter can convert 25 files before it needs to be purchased (lifetime standard licence is currently $29). Export to .PDF or .DOC seems the most useful options.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    My SYSTEM SIX is a Dell Latitude 5550, Core Ultra 7 165H, 64GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, supported device, Windows 11 Pro 24H2, Hyper-V host machine. Updated to 25H2 on 30th September 2025.

    My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine.
Freeware options Thunderbird and eMClient read .eml files

- open the chosen program
- cancel/bypass adding an account
- click-and-drag one/multiple .eml files into the opened program
- if the .eml file was saved with an attachment, that attachment will be included with the opened email

Then, if those emails are to be added to an existing account, add that account to the program. Emails can be clicked-and-dragged between accounts and the destination account will be populated and the mail servers updated accordingly

Hello Folks, sorry for my late reply, I am resetting my old laptop that has a Hard Drive and is very very slow.
Back to my thread, my main email is a Gmail, I can use it in any browser to read and send. I also have the same account in Microsoft's Mail and Calendar. It gives me more flexibility in writing a message.
I saved the same email as .EML in both apps. When I tried to open it, I got the image in my posted thread.
I am in the process of reinstating Thunderbird which can open a saved email.
It still does not answer my problem of getting the full use of MS Mail & Calendar App.

New Outlook, Thunderbird will open .EML files and many other Email clients.

There is an extension for the Edge Browser, probably other browsers. Many Apps in the MS Store.
If you do not want to use a Mail client.

That is obsolete App, been replaced by New Outlook.

Looks like you have confused New Outlook with the web access way which looks so similar as to be confusing.
