Open Shell 4.4.170 Moves Its Icon (Solved)

I have seen this occasionally, including twice in the past ten minutes or so, when the Open Shell icon appears in the middle of the task bar (I have program icons moved to the left from the default center location), and the built-in Windows start button appears at the far left of the task bar. Clicking the Open Shell icon restores it to its proper place and the Windows start button is banished.

The first time this happened was rather concerning, as I feared that something serious had taken place; now,, at least, I know that it only takes a mouse click to restore the icon situation, but it is rather puzzling.

I stopped using Open Shell and went back to an older version called Classic Shell (same prog, older version) that works fine for me, never had a problem. The only reason I went back to Classic from Open was Open Shell wouldn't let me move a shortcut to the menu without and keep any icon changes whereas Classic shell does.

If you leave the Windows Start button in the centre, Open Shell stays put on the left. No problems moving shortcuts to the menu with OpenShell here and it keeps changed icons or rather the one I changed which was a folder. version 4.3.1

Good point Malc, That is how I have mine set, and the Icon thing was on a very early version of Open Shell when it was on GitHub soon after Classic Shell abandoned it, as it works so well for me I never tried updating again.

In the Open-Shell settings panel, if you tick the "Show all settings" checkbox, you can select the "Start Button" tab, and, next, you can tick the "Align to corner of the screen" checkbox at the bottom of the tab.

Thanks for the tip, I have just done what it stated, shall wait a while to see if the odd icon peregrination has stopped, and so report if it seems to have ceased.

Right now I'm using a .png file that's 86 x 288 pixels in size. Even though I left the checkbox unticked, I haven't seen the icon move itself around yet, but I vaguely recall that it can happen with the old Classic Shell if the pixel size of the file is sized smaller .

As threatened, I have returned to state that it appears to me that the icon now stays where it belongs. I don't particularly like the icon itself, but I don't know that it is worth bothering with given that I know where and what the icon is and does.
