When my daughter went to college I gave her a HP laptop which see was thrilled with. Then she was offered a Chromebook on loan from the college and ended up using the inferior Chromebook simply for the long battery life but still could do the work.
I'm a converted ASUS laptop fan and between the two I'd go for the better ASUS: i7 13700H but then the question is how important will battery life be?

Yeah, at first I was worried about battery life. The exact battery specs of Dell is 54Wh and ASUS is 50Wh. I guess the difference is not really that much in terms of longevity. The issue with longer battery life is the weight of the laptop. More power is always heavier. But schools have plugs anyway. This ASUS is supposed to be fast charging as well.

The thing is though, it’s as ugly as sin < Me.

That’s why I paid through the butt for the SMEG Toaster/Kettle. If you seen them sitting on the bench you’d understand. If you knew how important the look of the kitchen was to my wife, you’d not only understand, you’d duck for cover suggesting that toaster .

I placed these orders for 2 laptops but I only need one for my 14 year old daughter's graduation gift. Both are only available online in my area so I can't go to the store to check them physically. Both on sale from $1200 down to $800. One is brand new (Dell) and one is open box ---not refurbished (ASUS).
For my daughter's purpose, it needs to be 14" only, touchscreen and foldable (like a tablet when folded). Both are 16GB RAM and 1TB SSD drive.

Main difference:
DELL: i5 120U (2024) and 4 cell battery (longer battery life), 1.7kgs weight
ASUS: i7 13700H (2023) and 3 cell battery only, 1.5kgs weight (lighter because of battery capacity)

In your opinion, which is better in the long run?

The 2 laptops arrived today. Left most is my old ASUS zenbook laptop. The 2 on the right are the new ones. I setup the ASUS and I don't feel like setting up the Dell anymore. 🤣

The color is called Quiet Blue but it looks more black like you said.

my daughter gave me her old dell laptop. it is about 13 years old. They still want a fortune for new batteries for this old stuff. I plug it into a/c, I i use it. Win10 will not longer be updated very soon. I put linux on it. Biggest issue is the old computer get slower as software needs more cores. memory, etc. But just for a computer it's good. I despise the old HP laptops, a long time ago we bought our daughter a new one and it was JUNK! made very bad, cheap junk, which was expensive!

It's not different from old and new cars. You pay the same cost of gas. If the laptop is gonna be very useful for you, paying for the new batteries will be much better than paying for a new laptop. Plus if the battery model is discontinued, it will surely be a bit expensive if it is hard to find.

We have a winner!
I am keeping the ASUS for my daughter. The Dell is a bit flimsy. There's a clicking sound at the bottom when you try to lift it. And the lid slams by itself even if you push it very gently. The hinge has no resistance at all. It's a brand new Dell laptop. The ASUS looks pretty solid.

I'm surprised Yeti is not working for you. They can even pick up voices from another room.
I once have that giant Logitech Yeti mic but the size really bothered me so I replaced it with Elgato Wave 1.

Perhaps it was the setting. I'll have to look into it a little more. This will be the last set of headphones I purchase. I already have five pairs (2 wired and 3 wireless - including the Corsair I just purchased). Fortunately, my wife doesn't come into my office else she'd see them hanging everywhere!

Yeah, the Yeti has, I think, 4 modes: stereo, cardioid, omnidirectional and bidirectional.

But for private chats I use my Logi G933/G935.
