Windows 11
Hello,

I have the following

Windows 11
5600x
3070 ti
32gb Corsair DDR4 Ram
Corsair 750w PSU

For the last few months i have not been able to upgrade my GPU without experiencing crashes so i have stuck on 472.12

I got annoyed with this and now I am trying to work out what the issues are. I have updated to 511.79

I have stress tested RAM and done a clean install of Windows several time - I use DDU whenever i change driver also.

Tonight it crashed on me and last night as well, the errors i have received are below

Battle.net App - Exception Unknown Software Exception 0xe00000008) occurred with applications

Event viewer - Event 2004 - Windows successfully diagnosed a low virtual memory condition. The following programs consumed the most virtual memory: ModernWarfare.exe (16100) consumed 36261212160 bytes, NZXT CAM.exe (12748) consumed 449093632 bytes, and MsMpEng.exe (4060) consumed 221679616 bytes.

Event 26 - Application pop-up: Windows - Out of Virtual Memory : Your system is low on virtual memory. To ensure that Windows runs properly, increase the size of your virtual memory paging file. For more information, see Help.

My Page file is set to automatic - i have also had the same error on specifying which drive it should be on as well.

This only starts happening when I upgrade past driver 472.

can anyone assist? Thanks

Of the three processes you list, only one (MsMpEng.exe) is a necessary Windows utility. You could try disabling them for the moment.

When I use utilities like nzxtcam, I make sure that they are not loaded at startup. I'm usually willing to wait a few seconds to have them launch when I need them. Maybe battle.net could also be kept from loading when it isn't in use.

You could also try manually increasing your VM size. I presume that you have enough space on a drive to permit that.

I'm not sure why newer nVidia drivers cause this.

Something I found on Nvidia's site regarding 511.79 that could have something to do with the new driver causing problems for you. I don't know if it applies to your system or not since you have not completed your system profile in this forum:

Effective October 2021, Game Ready Driver upgrades, including performance enhancements, new features, and bug fixes, will be available for systems utilizing Maxwell, Pascal, Turing, and Ampere-series GPUs. Critical security updates will be available on systems utilizing desktop Kepler-series GPUs through September 2024. A complete list of desktop Kepler-series GeForce GPUs can be found here.

Exceptions:
  1. Notebooks supporting Hybrid Power technology are not supported (NVIDIA Optimus technology is supported).
  2. The following Sony VAIO notebooks are included in the Verde notebook program: Sony VAIO F Series with NVIDIA GeForce 310M, GeForce GT 330M, GeForce GT 425M, GeForce GT 520M or GeForce GT 540M. Other Sony VAIO notebooks are not included (please contact Sony for driver support).
  3. Fujitsu notebooks are not included (Fujitsu Siemens notebooks are included).

Regarding MsMpEng, it's always used high cpu usage for me. I use an old trick that's been around since windows 7. It may help with it's use of virtual memory as well and it certainly won't hurt anything if it doesn't.

Go to settings-privacy & Security-Windows Security-Virus and threat protection-under Virus & Threat Protection Settings click Manage Settings-scroll down to exclusions-add a file exclusion to
C:\Program Files\Windows Defender\MsMpEng.exe

Note: if you don't see this file, you may have to temporarily turn on 'show hidden files' to see it. I can't say that for sure since I have hidden files visible all the time.

I agree that if all else fails you need to increase the size of your paging file.

While it's good to encourage filling in the complete system specs, the graphics card is a 3070 ti. Ampere.

Yes, I know that. But without knowing the brand and model of his laptop, I can't pull up the specs to see if his falls within that exception that Nvidia put in its data sheet: Notebooks supporting Hybrid Power technology are not supported

I had to do some research to even understand exactly what hybrid technology is and how it works.

Something I found on Nvidia's site regarding 511.79 that could have something to do with the new driver causing problems for you. I don't know if it applies to your system or not since you have not completed your system profile in this forum:

Thanks for the replies.

Just to confirm these crashes only happen in game hence why battle net and Modern warfare were running at the time.

I will give the msmpeng amendment a try.

My page file is set to system managed so should this not just keep dynamically changing as it needs to. It’s on a M.2 drive with 180gb spare.

I have never experienced the issue before, typically I have run my hard drives with less than 40gb on the OS drive and be not had virtual memory errors in game.

Should NZXT Cam being using that much RAM? It’s only there for my CPU cooler.

Thanks

Folks across the web are complaining about the same thing. NZXT had had a problem for years with memory leaks. There is aa new beta driver on NZXT site addressing the latest one. NZXT CAM 4.30.0 BETA RELEASED!
Unfortunaltey this is the version I am currently running. Their latest beta.

If I can be sure to point to them I can raise a case their side
Please run V2 and the event script so that logs can be scanned.
Will do this afternoon when I return

There were 6 unexpected shutdowns and restarts.

These may or may not be related to failed Windows fast startup issues.

There were no recent BSOD seen in the log files.

Tuneup plus looks good.

Crucial scanner indicated that the computer can use 64 GB RAM.

Currently the computer has 16 GB RAM.

See the links that were posted in the earlier post:

Code:
System-managed page files automatically grow up to three times the physical memory

The best bang for the buck is to increase the RAM.
