I personally was never a fan, and found paint to be better. I uninstalled it everytime I re-installed Windows 10 or 11. I found it to be useless pre-install boat. But, thats just my opinion.

They’re 2 different programs. I think that paint is useless. I have never opened the 3D variant.

I kind of liked 3D Paint. It needed some serious polishing, but it was a pretty fast way to create 3D objects and skin or texture them. :-)

So I read. The tools looked like they would be useful but never Ghot around to opening it.

What an embarrassing turnaround lol.

Paint 3D was introduced to replace Paint which they intended to phase out but thr development kiddies failed to understand that Paint has been and still is used by a substantial fraction of pc users.

Ok Paint is very basic to many 3rd party tools, but for many, it met their needs which often amounted to simply taking an image and doing basic annotation for a presentation.

What most people did not need was a 3D tool that was a solution to problems most people never had. People find it hard to think in 3D unless suitably trained.

Now I hope MS also revert on the Steps Writer tool and even Wordpad.

Why get rid of tools that are useful and have worked for literally decades unless MS can provide better solutions?

Not true - most people go through their lives surviving on 3D understanding, such as driving in traffic. The issue is that they find it difficult to verbalise it, and generally don't need to.

I've been an active geologist for over 50 years now, and just a little past the quit and retire step. I'm instinctively a 3D thinker and the only "training" in general was me generating pictorial models with the z-axis deliberately magnified to overcome the difficulty others had in verbalising 3D understanding. Worked very well ...

[Update - May 2025] Paint 3D was deprecated in August 2024 and was removed from the Microsoft Store on November 4, 2024. To view and edit 2D images, you can use Paint or Photos. For viewing 3D content, you can use 3D Viewer. For more information, see Resources for deprecated features.
