IMO too. Gimp is powerful, I've tried it. But it was designed by Unix Gurus for Unix Gurus, and has an uncompromising 'Unix-style' interface :D

GIMP is a wonderful tool if you know how to use it
i used GIMP on 9x as well as on Linux.

best of luck Steve ..

Same. I've been using PSP 7.04 for maybe 15 years. I got most of it down pat.
But there's always a few things hidden away. :-)
Same. Long time PSP 7.04 user. I just found the original box that I bought it in with the 2 bound printed manuals. The main reference guide is about 1-1/4" thick and ~500 pages. I was thinking of scanning it until I saw how it was bound and the sheer size of it.o_O

It looks like it was professionally done or an original. That image looks too good to be a scan but I'm not 100% sure and don't know if there's a way to know but it looks like it was converted to PDF by whatever program it was originally created with. The only thing that's missing is page numbers dont link to the pages but a lot of manuals are like that.

I noticed that some of the lines are slanted, there is shadowing on some of the pages and it isn't texted so you can't search it using Acrobat. That's what made me think it was done "by hand." Either way... great job having it digitized. (y)

Anyone - I have never used Paint Shop Pro, how does this compare, (as to function & features) to Adobe Photoshop or Affinity Photo 2, (I already understand this is free and the others are not)? How does this handle RAW file conversions? Right now, I use Nikon NX Studio for RAW conversions and that works very well "for that" but I am always looking for something else that is free and maybe better or just as good.

I know that the best way to answer this question is for me to install it and see for myself, but I would like to hear a few other user's opinions, who use this, (Paint Shop Pro) and may have also used any of the other three I mentioned. I would rather not download and install this if others with experience feel that what I am now using is just as good or maybe even better.

No complete review wanted or needed, just a "general" quick and easy comparison - stay where I am, or I should try this. At my age, I am not too sure about learning a new image editing software program in the first place. Thanks much. :-)

The Samsung NVMe PM9C1a 1024GB SSD does not use a Phison NAND controller. Instead, it uses Samsung's in-house developed Piccolo (S4LY022) 6-Core 4 Channel Controller. The PM9C1a utilizes a controller built using Samsung's 5-nanometer process and seventh-generation V-NAND technology. 🤔

Back in the day Jasc's PaintShop Pro and Adobe Photoshop were direct competitors and tried to match each other's latest features. The tools and features of PSP 7.04 are much the same as those of Adobe Photoshop 6.0.

Alright, that's good information. At the very least, I should have a little headstart with the learning process if I go in that direction. Thanks, so much, just the kind of information I was requesting.

Being a 32 bit app psp7 is not 'large address aware' and is limited to using 2GB of physical memory.

I came across this useful little standalone app.

It requires .NET Framework 3.5, you may need to turn it on in Windows Features.

It works for psp7, making it Large Address Aware (LAA) and able to use 4GB of available physical memory.

*** Linux question ***

I'm currently using Debian KDE and I've got PSP7 running perfectly fine via Wine.

However, it's limited to 2GB memory. Is there a way to make it LAA and up it to 4GB? :geek:

Sorry, but Linux, and LAA in Wine is beyond my experience. This thread may help...

When saving a new image in PSP7 it defaults to saving as a .psp file.

Can you change this to save as another format?
