I haven't figured out how to do that.
I just choose the format I want in the save window.

Seems strange but (From Google AI)
Go to File > Preferences > General Program Preferences, select the Dialogs and Palettes tab, and check "Remember last type used in file save-as dialog".
After checking the box, perform a "Save As" (F12) once and select your preferred format (e.g., JPG). Future saves will default to this format.

I'm using V9 and I cannot find this

Thank you so much for this! I'd been using PSP5 since about 1999 and switched to PSP7 less than a year ago and I never actually thought it was possible short of some sort of Registry hack.

It defo works in PSP7. I'll fire up a virtual machine later and try it on PSP5.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

I'm glad I brought this issue up. I genuinely thought, after all these years, it simply wasn't a feature of PSP you could alter - you just had to save your files (by default) as .psp files. End of story.

The same way those early Adobe products forced you to save files in their native formats. (And probably still do.....)

    The only thing it lack is USB-3.2 on the front face but it has 3.0 on the back
Has anyone had issues with GIF images they've created in Animation Shop 3.04 and then tried to add text to the image via the website:

Both the images below - I captured them from YT using ShareX as one long file. Then, I opened the file in Animation Shop 3.04 and split it into two, and trimmed out unwanted frames. Everything is ok at this point.

Then I upload both files (one at a time) to the website: Add text to animated GIF, APNG, WebP to add text to the image.

I go through the set up process, follow the steps and download the files at the end.


The issue is, the first file with the added text opens up ok in Animation Shop 3.04 ok but the second file does not. AS 3.04 just crashes when I double click on it. Additionally, I cannot open the second file in AS 3.04 via the 'Open File...' menu inside the program. Again, it just crashes.

It's my experience, with this website that roughly 60% of the files I add text to will not then open up in Animation Shop 3.04.

Has anyone any pointers here?

Download both files and try them in Animation Shop 3.04 for yourself.

That happens sometimes on ezgif.
Just convert it to an .mp4 on ezgif and then download the .mp4

Then... upload the .mp4 to ezgif and convert it to a .gif
Then the .gif will work properly in Animation Shop.

The problem is with ezgif, not with Animation Shop 3

Question about using the selection tool.

In PSP5, when you selected an area, and dragged the tool to the outermost parts of the image, the tool stopped moving in the X and Y positions at that point. This is handy, because if you started the selection at the x0 y0 coordinates and dragged the tool to the end of the image, the numbers at the bottom left gave you the exact aspect ratio.

In PSP7, when you select an area, and drag the tool to the outermost parts of the image, it doesn't stop at the limits of the image in the X and Y positions. It continues way past the image canvas size. So, how can you accurately get the exact aspect ratio of the image? Is there a way to stop that happening?

I now have mine set to save as .png
But... after all these years I still click the drop down for the file type. LOL
It's been two weeks and I'm still clicking the drop down. I can't seem to stop doing that.
