Partition Wizard Shows Partition Fully Used

Hi there, I am trying to upgrade my laptop SSD, for which I'd like to copy my OS to the new drive using MiniTool Partition Wizard version 10. I would like to resize the OS partition to just 300gb (instead of 475 on current drive). It won't let me resize the partition in the destination drive (see screenshot 1 for reference). I think its because its showing the partition to be fully used, which it is not (see screenshot 2). Any help on how to fix this would be appreciated, I don't want the partition which i'll just use for the OS to be 500gb!

The partition is not a NTFS partition, so it needs formatting.
Please do a search for disk management, hit create and format hard disk partitions .
It will take you to where you want.
Make sure to manipulate the right partitions.

Yes, the smart move would be NOT to erase your OS partition. (y)
At this point you want to use the unallocated area of drive 1.
Copying the OS to the new SSD drive will require you to do a bit of searching on this site.

They recommend using Macrium free which many of us use.
Then you will clone the partition.
Follow the instructions, take your time, it should be a piece of cake.

Seems to be fixed, was able to resize the partition on the target drive. Small issue with not being able to hide the 16mb windows reserves on the drive, but i'll fix that after migration/frying of target drive. Thanks for the help!

Just remove drive letter for 16MB partition if one has been assigned using diskpart or tool like minitool partition wizard free.

Looks like a bug in MiniTool Partition Wizard version 10. I'm running the licensed version and it's up to 12.7 and it shows the correct size used on all of my drives.

So, quick update:
Managed to resize and clone, but wasn't able to boot from the cloned drive. Retried with Macrium, same problem. After much research I've managed to fix it. Seems there was an issue with the Master Boot Record (MBR) on the clone-drive.

For anyone with the same issue trying to follow along *proceed at your own risk, the following is prone to error, involves making edits in system32 through command prompt and may ruin your drive further*.

What I ended up doing to solve the issue:
Created installation media USB drive
Installed cloned drive into laptop (doesn't boot, but contains OS)
Booted from USB drive with windows installation media to access command prompt thru troubleshoot function
Tried following this guide to repair the master boot record (using the bootrec commands listed):

When running into an access denied prompt with the bootrec /fixboot command, wound up on this guide:

Following the above guide, ran into a hitch on step 12, for which I used this video:

and poof, i was in Windows!
Imagine reinstalling Windows like a pleb, ha!

This is why I always use an image. I've never had a cloned drive boot without having to fix the MBR.

Yeah I saw imaging being mentioned here and there. What's the difference and how would I've gone about it?

When I do an image the first thing I do is make a folder for it. I use the date as the name of the folder. Then in Macrium I click on the drive that contains the C:\ partition and make sure that all partitions are selected, then I choose image this disk. I then select the folder to save the image to and hit Finish. I untick the save as a backup definition file and hit OK.

Strange, I literally just did the same thing with a really old ASUS laptop. Cloned the HDD to a SSD in a USB caddy, put the SSD in laptop and it booted right up. Didn't have to do anything special. Used Macrium 8 Free.

That is why I suggest diskgenius ( free version is fine ) for cloning/os migration.

You weren't able to resize the system partition because you had selected "2. Copy partitions wthout resize"

Booted from USB drive with windows installation media to access command prompt thru troubleshoot function
Tried following this guide to repair the master boot record (using the bootrec commands listed):

When running into an access denied prompt with the bootrec /fixboot command, wound up on this guide:

Following the above guide, ran into a hitch on step 12, for which I used this video:

If only using the same Partition Wizard you had given the volume label OS ( the volume label of your original C:) to the copied partition in the target disk, there wouldn't have been any need to go through this convoluted process to assign the volume label to make the target disk bootable.
