Passkeys Don't Work in Google Chrome on My PC

It is annoying the damned crap out of me. When I sign into a Google account, it says "Use a Passkey" with no interactive options other than "Try another way" or Cancel. Trying to figure out the damned problem, I ensured that all accounts (both are administrative) had Windows Hello properly configured, including a screensaver set to screen lock. Then I looked at the passkeys in my system, and they're there, all right, but damn me if Chrome knows it...not!

It didn't occur to me that I ought to try this in my other browsers. I'll go ahead and post this to determine if it's system-specific or browser-related.

I'd sure appreciate some help, people. Thanks.

I noticed the same thing, seems like passkeys never work in Chrome, so it is not worth setting them up.

Hey, guys, thanks! I was able to use it in Firefox, no problem, so it is indeed Google Chrome that is the misfeasant rat-bastid. Ironic, don't you think, that their own browser can't use passkeys? The problem has been authoritatively isolated to them.

Use another browser. Firefox worked for me. Try Edge, Opera GX, or another if you don't have Mozilla's browser.

Something else I gotta ask, though, considering your issue on laptop: Does your laptop have a TPM chip and are all user profiles on that machine Windows Hello protected, i.e., do you have screen lock, screensavers enabled? Those could be responsible if not.

It is because of this issue - among others - that I switched to either Edge or Firefox, which support passkeys. Yes - even on Android.
I had been using Firefox since it first came out in 2004, but their 2FA screwed up and locked me out permanently, so I abandoned it; it was because I'd changed phones. Recently, I created another Gmail and Firefox account and immediately downloaded recovery codes so it wouldn't happen again. Passkeys work just fine in Firefox.
