Funny thing - I'm sure there is no connection, but my Lenovo warranty ran out 2 days ago. Coincidentally, my photo app stopped working 2 days ago.:oops: I like this little app for a lot of reasons. I download images from my camera to the desktop - go to the photo app and it used to open - no problem. Now it won't open. I tried the "repair" gizmo but no deal. Should I uninstall? Thanks.

If Photos App:

Go to Settings > Privacy & security look for “Pictures”
Make sure that Pictures library access and Let apps access your pictures library are on.

Also if Photos App try the following:

  • Open search on your PC and type CMD, right click on CMD and “Open as admin”
  • Click on the following command
SFC /scannow
  • Reboot your PC when finished.
After reboot:
  • Right click on CMD and “Open as admin”
  • Click on the following command so it copies to your clipboard and paste it into the CMD window:
DISM /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
  • Press enter and be patient.

What is “Sorta”? It opens but your camera can’t connect?
Try a different usb port
Try a different cable

Connect your camera
Check settings, type “AUTOPLAY” in the search box at the top of the Settings window.
Select Autoplay and check that everything looks OK in there.

Got through all up to the CMD part. Will to that tomorrow - all the rest to that point checked out and were ok. As in settings you recommend. Sorta just meant if I try the repair and then REBOOT it works. I don't want to have to go through that every time I use it. The camera settings are fine. Be back tomorrow - thanks so much. I will give a helpful tomorrow when I figure out where the LIKE button is...

Hello - I'm back - the photo app was working and then it wasn't -- as in today. I downloaded a few images off of the camera - clicked on one to open and nothing. I came back to do the cmd thing and I think I screwed up. I opened cmd - pasted the line as indicated. It was at about 63% and I moved the window - it stopped and then stayed stopped. I closed the window and tried the paste thing into CMD again but no deal. If I reboot and start over, will that clear out the mess I made. Thanks.
p.s. I successfully did the sfc scannow item before this last instruction that you indicated.

There's a known issue below for the Photos app you might check to see if related.

Photos app might fail to start when BlockNonAdminUserInstall is enabled
This issue might be observed after device updates the Photos app to version 2024.11050.29009.0 from the Microsoft store

Checked out the link you sent regarding issues with the photo app. Does not apply - do not have that "block non-admin user installed. I am going to go back and do the cmd process and let it run through without touching anything!! Thanks very much again.

Update to "app working fine" of Jun 29...NOT! It has failed numerous times. Whenever I put my SD card with my images - and offload them - it is not happy and doesn't recognize or open the image. If I go to the App file and tell the Photo app to repair or reset, it works. I really don't feel like going thru that every time. Can I -- should I -- uninstall it? If I do, where do I find it again to reinstall. Thanks.
