Solved Pin Windows Update to Start Menu

Hi folks,

I've recently upgraded to Windows 11 version 21H2 (build 22000.282) and would like some help with 2 things:

1. When I had Windows 10 I had Windows Update icon in the Start Menu as a shorcut; can someone please tell if it's possible to do this on 11? And if so, how?
2. On my folder icons it stopped showing a preview of the folder's contents. Has Microsoft deleted this or how can I fix it?

You could create a Windows Update shortcut using the same method in the W10 tutorial below, and "Pin to Start" the shortcut in W11.

You're gonna need to change you account name to: Brink®

I like Brink Inc, cause it rhymes. :)

Just follow the instructions above. I have it in my Start Menu and (unnecessarily) in my All Apps list.

Unfortunately, folders no longer show a thumbnail preview. Only files now.


You can manually change the icon of a folder if wanted though.

Thanks Brink. I already knew about changing the folder icon. I was hoping someone would know a trick about the thumbnail preview

Maybe someone at Microsoft will revert back that omission from Windows 11!!

I doubt it. I believe they wanted to ditch the whole thumbnail cache regeneration/corruption thing!

Hi, I'm back with another question
There's an application I have, Any Video Converter, it's missing in my "All Apps" list. I have it in my pinned list though.
Can you please tell me how to also get it on the All Apps?

Hi there, mexicano,

Make a shortcut by right-clicking the .exe file in your AVC program's folder, and Send to Desktop (Create shortcut). Rename the desktop shortcut as you wish (many users just delete the .exe part), and then open this folder
"C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs"
Copy or drag your desktop AVC shortcut into that open Programs folder, close the folder, go to your All apps list, and you should see your new shortcut right there in the alphabetical list.

The most effective and simplest way is to reinstall the app. Easy peasy with no creating manual shortcuts or stuff like that

I tried both suggestions and they both didn't work! The program works fine as a pinned app and the desktop shortcut but it doesn't appear in the "All Apps" It just bugs me!

Hello,

You should be able to use an option in the tutorial below to add the shortcut to All Apps.

Shawn, he just wants a shortcut to his AnyVideoConvertor in the All apps list. I thought my suggestion would work, but he says no.
