Popup Blues

At the far left end of the task bar is an area that reads out temperature and also launches a popup. How do I disable it? Thanks.

In addition to @cereberus response, go to Settings/Apps/Installed Apps and see if anything looks suspicious. Sometime when you install software, it is bundled with unwanted junk that installs if you don't choose to do a custom install.
