The time for hibernation after sleep is no longer available on power config Advanced Settings as it used to be. I used the command
powercfg /hibernate on, but nothing changed.

How can I adjust the time for hibernation?

My specs are up-to-date.

My problem is not to get hibernate, which I already have, but being able to adjust its timing after sleep. I thought my post was clear, but for the answers I recognise it was not. I set the manual hibernation for when I press the power button, but I cannot adjust the automatic timing after sleep.

pepanee

I already have a registry entry similar to that one in Advanced settings, but no “Hibernate after”. Please, have a look at the attached registry subkey from my registry and tell me what you think.

Don't add anything.

1) Open Command Prompt as an Administrator
2) Paste this in there:
reg add "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\PowerSettings\238C9FA8-0AAD-41ED-83F4-97BE242C8F20\9d7815a6-7ee4-497e-8888-515a05f02364" /v "Attributes" /t REG_DWORD /d 2 /f

The powercfg command that I posted above works, and doesn't require administrator privileges to run. If you still can't see the Hibernate after setting in the Sleep category, it's because hibernate is off or not supported (or else you have gremlins).
Run powercfg a to see if hibernate is on. (powercfg h on turns it on, and powercfg h off turns it off.)

Sorry. It doesn't work for me. Thank you.
See post #9. In an elevated command prompt, turn hibernate on (powercfg h on).

P.S., if the Advanced power settings window panel is still open when you run the commands, then you also need to close/reopen that window panel. Then you will be able to see the "Hibernate after" setting in it.

do you have 'fast start up' enabled in the power options?
control panel > power options >
on the left of this window 'change what the power button do'
the fast start up option is at the bottom of this window.

if fast start up is enabled please disable fast start up and then try the hibernation settings.
a restart will be required before checking the hibernation settings.

best of luck, Steve ..

Although disabling Fast Startup (like how @XxXxX described) very often does fix it, another thing that you can try is to disable Hybrid Sleep in the currently active power plan.

In an elevated command prompt,
  • To disable Hybrid Sleep for AC power in the current power plan:
    powercfg setacvalueindex scheme_current sub_sleep hybridsleep 0
  • To disable Hybrid Sleep for DC power in the current power plan:
    powercfg setdcvalueindex scheme_current sub_sleep hybridsleep 0
  • To enable Hybrid Sleep for AC power in the current power plan:
    powercfg setacvalueindex scheme_current sub_sleep hybridsleep 1
  • To enable Hybrid Sleep for DC power in the current power plan:
    powercfg setdcvalueindex scheme_current sub_sleep hybridsleep 1
  • To apply the changes:
    powercfg s scheme_current
In a command prompt (elevated or not),
  • To view these two different settings:
(powercfg qh scheme_current sub_sleep hybridsleep|find " Current AC Power Setting Index: 0x00000001">nul 2>&1&&(echo Hybrid Sleep for AC power is enabled in the current power plan.)||(echo Hybrid Sleep for AC power is disabled in the current power plan.))&(powercfg qh scheme_current sub_sleep hybridsleep|find " Current DC Power Setting Index: 0x00000001">nul 2>&1&&(echo Hybrid Sleep for DC power is enabled in the current power plan.)||(echo Hybrid Sleep for DC power is disabled in the current power plan.))
