Preparing Older PC To Be The New Household 3rd System

Hello All

Thinking of Preparing the Older Main PC to Be the NEW Household 3rd PC, provided it fits into 3rd PC's Desk

((I should've done this sooner, like the 2nd week after i got this Newer AMD Desktop to be used as Main PC)

Anything i need to do with Older System prior to seeing for sure if it fits into Downstairs Desk?

It's been off since July 12th 2024

Do have 1 Solid State Drive currently installed it in, I'd transfer over her Solid State Drive from her current HP P6 2133W PC,

is Windows 11 Capable PC

Gigabyte B460M-DS3H
Intel I7 10700
32GB DDR 4
Samsung 970 Evo Plus
Would add Samsung 870 Evo SSD
Geforce 1660 Super
WIFi 6E/Blueooth 5.3 Card
Power Supply: EVGA G3 650 Watt


I know probably need a good dust cleaning prior to setting up down in the desk

**I'm getting tired of having to unplug her current TP Link USB wireless adapter everyday to get it working on Internet for a while why im finally fully considering this, even before i get the replacement case for it**

P.S. i can find another HDMI cable and hook upstairs here to My Samsung TV, and place Tower ontop of my Portable table and work on getting it all updated, even a clean install done if need be

Is there anything i need to do in preparing this system to be used as 3rd PC of Household?

(Provided it fits into Desk, not sure if its gonna or not)

Would Be in that Desk below the keyboard shelf

Tower is Thermaltake V200 TG RGB

((this picture was taken when i tried to use a Mini PC as Replacement for that 3rd PC, but Mini PC Died an early death, and wasn't exchange option with Amazon Refund, then the user was like just hookup my old Tower, and so i didn't repurchase another Mini PC at the time))

*Family member would be primary user**

There is a lot to that question, but without knowing everything about the machine here is my general view:

If the machine was working fine when you last used, then there is nothing more you need to do other than position it where you want it, plug in all the cables, and there should be no reason to assume it won't work just like before.

On the other hand, if the system had problems before, those should be resolved.

Once up and running in its new location, allow Windows update to do its thing and you should be good.

However, if you do encounter any issues, we can address them at that time. Just post back withy any issues or concerns that may need to be addressed.

There was no problems before prior to transitioning to newer AMD AM5 based Desktop in July, old one ran as good as it was gonna back then

**annoying part for me will be reaching surge protector that 3rd PC uses behind that darn desk**

Wherever you stick it, make sure it has a lot of ventilation around it or it will start overheating.

Yes that case always ran kinda warm to hot, airflow wasn't best in the Thermaltake v200 TG Rgb.

As front fans only had 1 side intake and hole at bottom of front cover. Rear exhaust was only 120mm.

Cpu cooler was installed by shop that originally built system in 2020, Arctic Freezer 7X. It throttled alot during my tasks still though

Hence why happier doing my tasks with my updated desktop, but I know 3rd PC needs update as well badly, 11 years old system


Even Mini PC that I had briefly overheated in that desk and died in summer of 2022

A comment, computers really should not be in a desk but on the desk, beside the desk or in the kneehole. Anytime there's a door that can be closed will cause heat issues. With the computer desks I've seen and had to work with, there was no back on the compartment the computer to be put in to aid in airflow.
