Printing From Browsers Problem

I recently purchased a Brother MFC L2730DW printer. I have it setup on my two desktops I'll call them new and old. Both of them are on the latestCanary build. I tried printing a recipe in Edge Canary and Firefox on the old desktop. It wouldn't print. The preview never loaded. When I try to open the printer queue I get an error about needing a program from the MS Store to open it. I then tried printing a document as a test and the printer worked ok. On the new desktop the recipe prints ok in Firefox. When I print the recipe using Edge Canary the second page is upside-down. On the old desktop I'm going to do a repair install and see what happens. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get Edge printing correctly on the new desktop? I'll worry about the old desktop after I try doing the repair install. I almost forgot to mention that I went ahead and installed all the software from Brother on both computers.

Did you go to the MS Store and get the program it said you needed, on the old computer?

Yes I did and the Store was unable to find any programs. I'm doing the repair install. I'm actually doing the second try. For some reason I have trouble getting the desktop to update on the first try. Even if it's a repair install.

I have a MFC-2700DW Sorry can't help you with your specific problem with Edge Canary but I had a problem with these from Brother:
Screenshot 2023-12-12 142730.png all on Nov 28 2023. It caused the printer to not only stop working but also I could not get my OpenOffice (4 1 14) programs to work. Thankfully had a Macrium B/U done that AM, saved my bacon :p

Good for you. Doesn't it feel satisifying to know you're protected like that? I wish everyone who owns a computer was as pro-active as you.
This seems like another one of those instances where getting driver updates through WU might be a bad idea.

The repair install on my old desktop didn't help. I uninstalled the printer and queue in Device manager and I'm running the softwareinstall I downloaded from Brother.

I have very mixed feelings when someone loses files because even though the files were important they didn't have a backup.

I've had a little success on my old desktop. I can print from Firefox. I would say that it's a bug in the Canary build 26010 except I can print from Edge on my new desktop. The only problem I have printing from Edge on my new desktop is that the even pages are upside down.

I found a way to print multible pages in Edge without the even pages being upside down. If I select Print using system dialog the even pages print upright. Still haven't found a way to get the printer queue to open. I guess I'll have to wait and see if the next Canary build fixes my problem.

I have the Brother MFC-2710DW and have no problems printing whether I'm running a general release or Insider version of Windows.

I have it set up as wireless (It asks me to plug in the printer cable during installation); when it finishes, everything's OK.

I will say, installation is rather confusing at times.

BTW, I always go to Brother to download the latest files they have for my Brother printers.

Setting up the printer on both desktops was easy. I'm using Wi-Fi and Windows found the printers and installed the drivers without any problems. The printer prints as expected except for when using Edge. I don't know when the printer queue problem started. It happens on both desktops. I wouldn't have known if I didn't t the problem trying to print from Edge and Firefox. I tried opening the printer queue to see if the print jobs were listed. By installing the complete software from Brother I did fix the problem printing from Firefox on my old desktop. I forgot to add to my last post that the work around is on my new desktop. I still can't print in Edge on my old desktop. The preview will not load.

After trying everything I could think of such as installing the Brother software, deleting and reinstalling the driver and a repair install I can now print from Edge. I have to select Print using system dialog. I'm hoping that the next Canary build will include a fix to my problem. I doubt it but it is possible. The problem still isn't properly fixed so I'm leaving this thread open.

I found a way around the printer queue not opening. I can use Control Panel - Devices and Printers and click on the printer and choose See whats printing. I just updated my new desktop to Canary build 26016 and the problem is still there. I haven't tried printing from Edge yet.

Edit: With build 26016 I can now print from Edge although the even pages are upside down.

I don't use Edge.

Try printing from MS Word or Notepad to see if it does what it's supposed to do.

Also, I think a separate team is working on Edge . . . I keep seeing that Edge has been updated, not that it seems to make any difference for you.
