Problem is with viewing image files

I use Irfanview Version 4.58-64 bit. What happens is I am looking at image files. All of a sudden the system goes nuts and it runs through 10 to 20 images as though it is shuffling through the images. I immediately lose the the spot I was in. I think the problem is with Irfanview but it could be a Windows Explorer problem. I never have the problem when I am in Microsoft Photo Viewer. I just don't have much control of images when I use that "Photo Viewer". This has gone of for years. Do the good people that view these forums agree it could be the Image program or do you think it is a Windows Explorer problem/glitch. I am completely lost trying to work out a solution and I hope with enough brain power here I can come up with a solution.

Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 13 years?
All the symptoms of a stuck key (or sticky keys) which advances the files through Irfanview. Swap out to another keyboard.

Been using Irfanview for ages/tears/yonks, never experienced this problem.

Check Slideshow mode settings (File >Slideshow)

How do you open image files, from within Irfanview (File > open) or just double click on an image filename?

EDIT : you could tinker with the i_view ini file(s) but not really worth it, much easier to do @Ghot suggestion above. When you uninstall, just check the ini files have gone
C:\Program Files\IrfanView\i_view64.ini
C:\Users\Greg\AppData\Roaming\IrfanView\i_view64.ini

If not, manually delete before re-install.

@ idgat
I really need a new computer. This one is over 3 years old and the keyboard has been giving me fits lately. Certain keys don't work at times, then the keys work perfectly. I am in the process of selling one home and buying another. I would rather get those financial biggies out of the way before buying a new computer. I really skimped on this one. I went with an Core i3 and I find some challenges along the way. I am going for at least Core i5 or maybe even Core i7 this time.

But this problem I am encountering has plagued me over the last 5-6 years long before I got this machine. But I hadn't thought about going through the actual Irfanview program to access the image files. I think I will do that for a few days and see if that resolves the problem. I usually just open the directory the files are in or just click on the individual file. If all else fails then I will uninstall the program then reinstall the program again.
