Hi I have a little problem I have a Sandisk 64 gb thumb drive. I have a PC and a Laptop the thumb drive works ok in my laptop but when I plug it into my PC it will only work if I plug it in on the front of my PC. If I plug it in any other USB port I get the following message (Unknown USB device Descriptor Request Failed)

All my other USB drives work ok on any port, but this one must be plugged in the front port to work its then fine and works ok

Can I do anything to make it work like the rest of my thumb drives please

Code:
The "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)" error means Windows can't identify a connected USB device, often due to insufficient power, driver issues, faulty hardware, or a loose connection. To fix it, first try restarting your PC and plugging the device into a different port or a different computer to test. If that doesn't work, you can uninstall the device's driver in Device Manager, or update your USB controllers, disable fast startup, and check for Windows updates.
1. Basic Hardware Checks
Restart Your PC: A simple restart can resolve temporary glitches.
Try a Different USB Port: The current port might be faulty.
Try a Different USB Device: If another device works, the original device is likely the issue.
Try a Different Computer: This helps determine if the problem is with the device or your computer.
Check for Damage: Inspect the USB cable and device for any physical damage.
Use a Powered USB Hub: If the device isn't getting enough power, a powered hub can provide it.
2. Software and Driver Solutions
Uninstall and Reinstall the Device:
Open Device Manager (search for it in the Start menu).
Locate the Unknown USB Device under Universal Serial Bus controllers.
Right-click it and select Uninstall device.
Restart: your computer to allow Windows to reinstall the driver.
Update USB Drivers: In Device Manager, right-click on your USB controllers and select Update driver.
Disable Fast Startup: Fast Startup can interfere with USB connections.
Search for Power Options in the Start menu.
Click Choose what the power buttons do.
Click Change settings that are currently unavailable.
Uncheck Turn on fast startup (recommended) and save changes.
Check for Windows Updates: Ensure your operating system is up to date, as this can include driver updates.
3. Advanced Troubleshooting
Scan for Hardware Changes: In Device Manager, click on the Action menu and select Scan for hardware changes.
Disable USB Selective Suspend:
Go to Power Options > Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings.
Expand USB settings and then USB selective suspend setting.
Change the setting to Disabled for both "On battery" and "Plugged in".

Probably the other USB ports don't provide enough power for some reason. You can solve this if you buy a powered USB 3.0 hub with separate external power supply. It can even improve performance.

It can also be due to incorrect USB drivers. If you have already tried to install the chipset drivers (which also install USB drivers) and didn't work, then you might want to try a workaround I did in an old motherboard that wouldn't recognize almost any USB device except USB mouse and keyboard. I also tried to update the chipset drivers and didn't fix the issue. So I decided to load Device Manager, expand the USB devices and manually replace all Intel USB devices with the respective generic driver. For example in my current PC, instead of "Intel(R) 6 series/C200 series Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Controller" change that to "Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller". To do that, right-click on the device, select Update drivers, then select second option., Then again the second option to see a list of compatible devices. It is usually the last entry in the list. After replacing all devices with the respective generic devices, restart the computer for the changes to take effect and see if your USB devices are now properly detected and working. Since you won't be able to use a USB mouse to remove all USB devices, you can remotely access your PC from another one using AnyDesk or similar utility. Unless of course it is that old that you still use PS/2 mouse.

Good thinking, but it doesn't always work. For another workaround see my previous post.
