I reset the platform with the above command and it went in the previous version but i have the same problem.
So it seems to be the definitions that have a new form after the new update.??

p.s to reset the platform you need to open cmd.
write cd C:\Program Files\Windows Defender and "enter"
and then MpCmdRun.exe -resetplatform and "enter"

@BrianInEngland @Bree Ok it fixed!!!
1)reset the platform windows defender to the default that iso have.
*open cmd with admin rights
*write cd C:\Program Files\Windows Defender and "enter"
*and then MpCmdRun.exe -resetplatform and "enter"

2)restart your machine
3)disable the real time protection only
4) go to windows update to update the defender platform (search for updates)
5)it will update and automatically it will restart the protection
6) restart and now the cmd not hang anymore

Edit: My second laptop t420 is fixed also with this workaround.

UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to lid hinges starting to break up this laptop has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

    Info for 2021-2026:
fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

  • My SYSTEM THREE is a Dell Latitude 5410, i7-10610U, 32GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro.

My SYSTEM FOUR was a 2-in-1 convertible Lenovo Yoga 11e (1st gen) type 20DA, Celeron N2930, 8GB RAM, 256GB ssd. Unsupported device. This has now been sold. It has been replaced by my System Eight.

My SYSTEM FIVE is a Dell Latitude 3190 2-in-1, Pentium Silver N5030, 8GB RAM, 1TB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro, plus Insider Beta, Dev, and Canary builds (and a few others) as a native boot .vhdx.

My SYSTEM SIX is a Dell Latitude 5550, Core Ultra 7 165H, 64GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, supported device, Windows 11 Pro, Hyper-V host machine. Updated to 25H2 on 30th September 2025.

My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, 1920x1080 touchscreen, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine. As its new home has an existing digital licence for Pro I've been able to upgrade the migrated OS from Home to Pro.

My SYSTEM EIGHT is a 2-in-1 convertible Lenovo Yoga 11e (5th gen) type 20LN, Celeron N4120, 8GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, a supported device for Windows 11. Currently running Windows 11 Pro, plus Insider Dev, Beta, and Canary builds as native boot vhdx.
If you do all the steps you can install the latest platform update without problem!

I note that while your System One's cpu is Intel, your graphics is AMD Radeon-based. This may be relevant, all my unaffected Intel systems are using Intel HD graphics.
Not quite, I have one affected Intel only machine, a NUC11TNKi7 with latest BIOS and latest everything .... Goes as far as install issues with Samsung Magician, and Event Viewer (MMC Snapin ) not opening, freezing on Remote desktop access etc. Pretty nasty this.

Ok, just performed the steps above and it fixed the issue here as well.
I did note when checking the updates that the defender platform is now: 4.18.2104.10
and that the bad update: 4.18.2202.4 failed the update
Does that mean MS pulled the bad update perhaps ?

EDIT: just noticed that 'realtime protection was stopped, look and the system successfully updated this time 4.18.2202.4

And the Event Viewer is still working.

It looks like it interferes with Windows Module Installer Worker, all installers that use that hang on my PC, for now i have disabled everything in defender and pc is working normally, please report to windows feedback

@BrianInEngland @Bree Ok it fixed!!!
1)reset the platform windows defender to the default that iso have.
*open cmd with admin rights
*write cd C:\Program Files\Windows Defender and "enter"
*and then MpCmdRun.exe -resetplatform and "enter"

2)restart your machine
3)disable the real time protection only
4) go to windows update to update the defender platform (search for updates)
5)it will update and automatically it will restart the protection
6) restart and now the cmd not hang anymore

Edit: My second laptop t420 is fixed also with this workaround.
Thanks will do this later

A couple of years ago, there was a problem with Event viewer for those who had set Display scaling to other than 100%.

Have the sufferers from this new condition set Display scaling to non-100%?

All the best,
Denis

Did you do all the steps? Because my machines work as intended after the steps and my clients are all ok.
If you restart the machine and cmd open as intended you have another problem.
If cmd dont open retry all steps.

If you reset the platform do you see the version 4.18.2104.10? because you are in beta channell and i dont know if there it reverts it.
As you can see thevisitor and bree fix the problem with the same steps.

Yes I did everything exactly. After resetting I had 4.18.2104.10. After updating it to 4.18.2204.4 and restarting, Event viewer doesn't load. It sometimes takes 30-40 minutes after booting to become useable.

cmd works, it never seemed to be a problem anyway. The Event viewer problem hasn't gone away.

You had a second pc with same problem did you tried it?
After resetting you need to restart also and then disable the real-time protection to re-update it. Maybe you update it after resetting without restart?
