Proposal: Preinstalled Bare-Metal Recovery App for Windows 11 (Feedback Hub Link)


Hello @JHDHD and welcome to ElevenForum. :-)

1. You're supposed to store your backups on a "different" drive. NOT the drive the OS is on.
2. Modern backup software allows you to make bootable rescue media.
3. If you wipe your main drive OR if you have to replace it... you can still access your backups...
......because you stored them on a different drive, and because you have the bootable backup software on a USB stick.

Toshiba laptops had a factory recovery partition that was removed when you wiped the drive.

Dynabook took over Toshiba PC.

This will not help now that the drive was wiped.

That's true. I heard about Dynabook taking over Toshiba at around 2019 or something. And this is exactly why i am proposing this app. But other people might disagree with me because of the "bloatware". if that was a reason, can't those people just remove the "bloatware" then?

Generally, laptops and desktops from chain stores (DELL, HP, Lenovo, etc.)... will have a hidden factory restore partition already ON the drive.

A clean install of Win 10 or 11, will look like this. Any extra partitions, will be the factory restore partition...

But i want the actual factory state. if users don't like this idea, if Microsoft does consider creating app, can't the people who like this idea do this, but the others do it their own way? By doing it this way, this satisfies both users who either hate this idea (which then they can use their own ideA) and like this idea

There's nothing to be created though. There are already apps to backup your entire computer, just certain folders, etc., whatever you want there. Some free, some paid. Anything Microsoft does would just be an also-ran.

I don't understand. I'm saying that i don't want to use apps to backup the computer. All i want is the original factory state back and exactly how both my laptops were on day one

Sure they can. But Microsoft won't do it.
They'll say... well, chain store comps already have a factory restore partition, and non chain store comps, should use 3rd party backup software.

A built-in factory-recovery tool with a universal model catalog is a reasonable idea, and it would be useful for restoring wiped older machines. Feedback Hub is the right place for it, since that's the channel the product teams use to review feature suggestions rather than to provide live support.

What tends to move a suggestion forward there is votes, so anyone who finds the concept useful can open your link and upvote it. It's worth keeping in mind that Feedback Hub is a suggestion channel rather than a commitment, so there's no set timeline, but the more upvotes an idea gathers, the better its chances of being looked at.

You literally said
I have submitted a feature request in the Windows Feedback Hub proposing a new preinstalled backup and restore application for Windows 11 and future Microsoft operating systems.

The original factory state comes from the OEM; Microsoft doesn't have it, nor are they responsible for it. You either get it from the OEM, or you back up your computer on day one, as was suggested above. Trying to recover it after the fact is like trying to record a TV show after it's off the air.

And millions of upvotes before they'd even consider the suggestion, whatever it might be. ^^

You had that on the hidden recovery partition that is now gone since you wiped the drive.

But this might not happen because of all the negative perspectives of this. so i will have to suffer with a generic Windows installation. even though i could use those backup apps, I wouldn't.
