PS2 keyboard not recognised

A few months ago I bought a new PC with a MIcro-Star A520M-A PRO motherboard and installed
a licensed copy of Windows 11 Pro. Ver. 22H2, Build 22621.

I would like to connect a PS2 keyboard, which works perfectly on a machine running
Windows 10, but it is not recognised by the OS

On boot up, the power LED lights on the keyboard but it is not shown In device manager,

I have chaged the Dword value in ..

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Services \i8042prt \ start

to 1 but the keyboard is still not recognised.

Any suggestions to solve this problem?

Go in UEFI Firmware (BIOS) and see your USB settings. If legacy mode is enabled, disable it or vice versa. This changes whether the USB keyboard or mouse acts like legacy PS/2 prior loading Windows and may affect real PS/2 hardware. Also see if there is a setting for the PS/2 port (keyboard, mouse, auto) and change as necessary. When in Windows go at Device Manager and check keyboards. If there is a PS/2 keyboard but not working, try uninstalling the device (press DEL) and restart. Windows should detect it fine.

Use PS/2 Keyboard to USB Adapter ?

It might work, but some models are incompatible with adapters. Also the whole point of using an older PS/2 keyboard or mouse is to avoid using a USB port. In new computers with 8 ports at the back, you don't mind, but in older computers with only 4 ports, you try to avoid using them for keyboards or mice. If you have two PS/2 ports (purple and green), make sure you connect the keyboard at the dedicated purple port, it won't work in the green port. If you have a single PS/2 port, make sure it is set to auto or keyboard in the BIOS.

Of course, it's not exactly PS/2.

I was talking about desktop computer whose motherboard has one or two PS/2 ports (the round ones with the small holes that look like S/Video ports).

There is no difference.
Windows doesn't care what holes you have and in what location.
As long as there are laptops there will be PS/2 support. It doesn't matter if there are holes or not.

I had a look in the bios settings. Before I changed any options I had another look on th web and found this ...


I followed the procedure he suggested and option 2 worked. (around i:22 and 3;45).

All now appears to be good.
