Since Microsoft is removing Microsoft Publisher from Microsoft 365 why can't they release a special standalone retail version that plays nice with Microsoft 365? There might be al lot of people that would buy it.

Note Microsoft only officially sells Microsoft Publisher standalone through volume license software distributors like CDW.

Probably you can buy the standalone version of Microsoft Publisher 2021 and use it alongside Office 365, but you have to confirm that before buying. An alternative is to cancel the subscription and buy the standalone Microsoft Office 2021. I would try to install the trial version of Publisher 2021. If I get no warning and both Publisher 2021 and Office 365 work together without issues, I would then buy the activation key.

The replacement rarely is as good as the original. Also I read on Google that it might screw the page layout of your files due to differences in page description. Are you willing to risk that? Even opening the file in Microsoft Word or PowerPoint is not guaranteed to keep everything intact. The safer way is to convert to PDF while Publisher still works but then it will be difficult to edit it. You will need Adobe Acrobat Pro or Adobe Illustrator which are even more expensive than buying a Microsoft Publisher key.

As a politician or army officer would put it "I cannot deny or confirm that Microsoft will discount 365 users because Publisher is removed". They will probably claim that this functionality is integrated in Word or PowerPoint, but like I said before, I would not risk opening a pub file there and screw the page layout and besides I doubt Word or PowerPoint can do what Publisher does with the same ease of use.

    Legacy MBR installation, no TPM, no Secure Boot, no WDDM 2.0 graphics drivers, no SSE4.2, cannot get more unsupported ;) This is only my test laptop. I had installed Windows 11 here before upgrading my main PC. For my main PC I use everyday see my 2nd system specs.
