Never had a problem with launching FF from taskbar before. Now, since latest updates to W11, I get this pop-up every time I try to launch FF from its taskbar icon. Any ideas on how to squelch this?

C:\Users\DAW\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar
Copy a firefox shortcut to that folder.

Yep. Good thinking. But I tried that too, and no luck on EITHER of the two W11 updated (819) PCs. Same annoying message.

You can try unpin then scrub any firefox links with Powershell
Remove-Item "$($env:APPDATA)\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar\Firefox*.lnk"
Then repin.

I had three dead links in there on my system

Gee! That's terrible!
I installed Firefox, got the desktop shortcut and then pinned it to the Taskbar. Worked!
But then, I have the Classic Shell installed too, so that could have made some difference.

From the sub menu with all apps,
you have a shortcut in there for Firefox, whart happens when you right click it and pin to taskbar.

You could try... export your bookmarks... then uninstall Firefox with REVO... and do the scan for leftovers.
Then reboot.
Then do a clean install of Firefox.
Then see if you can pin FF to the Taskbar


IF it's actually a Windows problem, you can try the old In-Place Upgrade.

    Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 15 years?
Okay, so I uninstalled it, checked File Explorer for leftovers (everywhere), installed a new copy, and I still get the same stupid message.

If I create a shortcut to firefox.exe on the desktop, then open File Exp and navigate to C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe, and then click the desktop shortcut, I get a message that says Windows can't find the file that I'm looking straight at.

I use FF so seldom that I don't know whether this was happening yesterday when I made a full Macrium Home backup.

I thought about that, but if I tell the installer to leave my stuff alone, it's going to ignore FF too, and that'll leave me at square One, with all of my customizations still to do. Not so?
