Question re W11 clean install

I'm finally at a point where I want to install W11. I'm going to have to do this by bypassing the TPM2.0 requirement. However I would ideally like to do a clean install (eg formatting the drive and install) as opposed to just upgrading.

- is this possible? By which I mean is it possible to boot and install from a Windows 11 ISO after doing the reg fix for the TPM bypass?
- what is the best way to go about this? Tips/links/suggestions from those that have done muchly appreciated.

Might seem like basic questions but I am very very out of touch with PC stuff. Last time I did a clean install it was still from disc, that isn't an option any more. Is W11 as straightforward to install as, say, W7 and earlier?

Welcome to Eleven Forum.

Yes, it is possible. Provided your PC already has Windows 10 installed and activated with a digital licence then you can clean install the same edition of Windows 11 (home or Pro) and it will activate from the exiting digital licence.

Bypassing the minimum requirement for Windows 11 is strongly discouraged by Microsoft, but there are workarounds to do so. Some of them provided by Microsoft themselves....

Not too much has changed. You can boot from an install usb as easily as from a disk. One thing to be aware of though, when installing Windows 11 Home (or W10 Home, come to that) the first boot up after the install (the OOBE stage, where it asks you to create the first user account) will require that you have an internet connection and that you use a Microsoft account. There are ways to bypass that and use a local account, see the Clean Install tutorial in the first link above.

You can do the upgrade by first creating a USB drive via the Rufus utility version 3.18. This fixes the install so that the TPM requirement is bypassed.

You download the ISO to your PC, and then use Rufus to create the USB volume from which you do the clean install. Select the option that bypasses TPM when creating.

Hallo everyone.

Thank you for all your replies. My apologies for not answering sooner; got tied up with some health issues...

I just got back into the upgrade thing and see that my motherboard does have the TPM2.0 . it just needed to be activated. (Bios --> select TPM firmware...)

So it looks I can do the upgrade hassle free.

Installing Windows 11 on any system is "hassle free" even if it doesn't meet Win 11 requirements. If it can run Win 10, it should be able to run 11. Doing a clean install even on unsupported hardware is ridiculously easy.

Is it unsupported? Sure. Do I care? No. :)

EDIT: I have 11 installed on about 20 machines. The number of them that are technically supported: 3

Rufus is version 3.19 from 01.07.22 and even more options. I installed Windows 11 Pro on a totally unsupported Lenovo T450 laptop using Rufus 3.18 a while ago and it is still going well and updating well from Microsoft servers so yeah it's no problem.

FYI, it's even easier to install Win 11 on unsupported hardware WITHOUT using any third-party utilities. In other words, while using a utility like RUFUS works fine, it's even easier without it.
