I remember as a new member on 7F Jonathan King repped me making me a Skilled Member. I had no idea about rep then, and laughed that someone foolishly considered me skilled

Vanity points for insignificant actions UGH.....What is needed is recognition of those trusted to give advice.....I include Kari for example.

Those are the trophies, only really visible to you....

Those are the badges, there for all to see, which can only be earned from Reaction points (aka 'Rep' in TF terms)

I have been called with a lot of names. Idiot and womanizing drunk illegitimate by all my four ex-wives and countless girlfriends, non-thinking stupid egomaniac by my doctors, f***ing foreigner by my fellow patrons in my local neighbourhood pub in this adopted home country of mine, and so on.

One thing no one has ever called me, one thing I have never been accused of being, is modest. No one has ever called me modest, no one has ever accused me of being modest. My vanity makes me quite proud of that.

I quite like my rep, or reaction points as it's called here. In all honesty, it motivates me. Still at this age

I know who and who not to trust......and suspect you do also.....with your knowledge of web design it should not be beyond your capability to come up with something simple as most of our Guru`s are skilled only in certain matters, some having given inadvisable advice in my experience.

I can't vet every user and this is the best system I can think of that can be done with the out-of-the-box tools this software gives so as not to use 3rd part code that could cock up on future updates.

I totally understand your point, at the same time understanding that what you would like to have here, is simply impossible.

I have occasionally got advice from respected, well known senior members on Ten Forums for instance, that simply did not work. I have myself occasionally given bad advice which I had not tested, simply trusting my "theoretically, this should work" instinct.

Sometimes a new member has resolved my issue with his / her first post.

I still trust these senior geeks and their advice, and I hope my fellow esteemed members will trust my advice. A bad day is a bad day, how should we make some posts impossible to rep, while still allowing other posts from same geek being "reppable"?

Kari you and Brink are at the very top respected members as far as i am concerned, as are some other members...as for age motivation (your quote)
I am 84 and believe vanity to be one of the original sins....which is the reason for my original post'.

I'm sometimes surprised - I've gotten some great advice from people who were very new on TenForums. The great thing about a forum like this is that you can tap into a huge community of people and absolutely anyone can help.

It's also great to watch people contribute more over time as they learn.

Gotta admit, it feels pretty good also to be here on the new forum right from the start!
