Interesting, thanks for the screenshots.
Check the timings, both in about 2 mins, same disk model and almost same data sizes.
Shouldn't be almost same speeds expected?
One read speed close to the other so... write speed also needs to be close to the other, not 10x faster.
IMHO, there's a bug in the write speed reported on first screenshot.
Otherwise plain ol' logic would expect all operation to end close to 10x faster if write speed is 10x faster.
Unless we're dealing with different hardware.

Yeah, my assumption is that there's a bug in MR8 on the wrong-write-speed machine, but I copied the reflect.exe from the right-report one to the wrong-report one, and the wrong reports continued, so it's somewhere else. Interesting, no? Yeah.

The speed you are looking at may well be the memory write speed as MR builds the backup file in a memory cache. If you use a memory benchmark tool you will see the throughput measured at approx that same speed.

Wow! I hadn't thought of that!
But with the same exe file running on both machines, why would one report memory-write speed while the other reports disk-write speed?
I don't expect you to answer that; I'm just announcing a question that's in my mind atm.

There is a setting buried in Advanced options that allows you to change how the speed is reported, however the reported write speed at the time of building the backup file in the cache should always be the memory speed. The final write speed reported could possibly change depending on the write method, using Direct Disk IO or system cache, I forget the exact terms MR uses. :)

Yes, 282. Both Lenovo motherboards without major differences, both 16GB RAM. Weird-write-speeds-reported machine has faster RAM (DDR4 2666 v. DDR4 2400) but not faster enough to explain anything. Models of Lenovo very close. CPU of faster machine is 8th gen; of the other, 7th.
I still think it's a glitch in MR, but I'll investigate further today before I bother the Macrium people with my screenshots.
I simply do not believe a reported writing speed that's ... well, ... unbelievable.

Thanks. OK. I see, from your specs.
It can be MR but it can also be W11.
They did iron out some bugs on AMD lately, but Intel was ok, unless this is something else, also Lenovo, hardware related.

There is a setting buried in Advanced options that allows you to change how the speed is reported [...] The final write speed reported could possibly change depending on the write method, using Direct Disk IO or system cache,
@DigitalGoat
You solved it for me. I must have changed the setting for reporting write speed. It's not hiding in Advanced settings or even Advanced-Advanced settings, but right under the Backup item up in the menu bar:
It's Disk Write Performance, and the panel that opens shows the method currently in use and offers an Edit button that lets you choose Direct Disk I/O, File System Cache, or Automatically Select. Mine was set to File System Cache, and the Edit button let me change it back to Direct Disk I/O, where I want it.
I don't recall having changed that setting, but it's fine now, and my reported read and write speeds make sense again now.
Thank you very much for your help. Marking this Solved.

Hi there
Macrium V8 has improved R/W speeds considerably and also optimised what needs to be written / read to / from the image file. Using "Buffering", large internal block sizes and doing what any sensible task manager in an OS should do is to overlap I/O with CPU processes - i.e while the CPU is processing something the Disk I/O controller can do its business.
Cheers
