removed one drive from pc and now my photos will not show up

Windows 11 Pro 26100.3775 4/‎28/‎2025

ok i had one drive turned off and today i uninstalled it. and when i went into my photos to copy one into a forum i get an error message invalid value for registry. i right clicked it to open it in the photo viewer so i could enlarge it to read something on the photo so did this happen because i removed onedrive? if so how can it repair it or will i have to reinstall one drive. i had my photos on a backup drive and i can't click on them either to show in the photo viewer. my guess is one drive is linked. so maybe another photo view will work.

ok i think i figured it out i went to apps photos and clicked on jpg and picked photos as default viewer and it worked. but now i bet i have to do that for a;; the extensions i have for photos.

No, nothing to do with OneDrive. Just the default apps for images on your PC

2. Then you have to unlink account & PC from onedrive.

Once you do this the files you have in onedrive will remain there until you login to Onedrive on the Web and delete them.

3. You can then either uninstall Onedrive or disable it. I prefer to disable it. Open Task Manager>Startup Apps
Find Onedrive in the list and, right click on it, select disable. This prevents Onedrive from auto-starting.

4. If you want to uninstall it instead, the best way is to use Revo Uninstaller Freeware Portable. You’ll find Onedrive under the Windows Apps section. Be sure to scan for and delete any leftover files and registry entries Revo finds. Download Revo Uninstaller Freeware - Free and Full Download

5. You can also use option 1 in this tutorial to uninstall it. It will leave a few registry entries behind though. Uninstall and Reinstall OneDrive in Windows 11

I believe you are supposed to “Unlink” your PC first. As per the post above.
As long as your images are still physically on your PC, I am not quite sure what the problem is.

i did have it turned off and logged out before i did that. anyway i went thru my photos and turned on all the extensions that came up with that error message. and if i get anymore i will just have to turn those back on. i did a wipe of this drive the other day and used the esd for win10 and installed win10 without one drive turned on but when win11 came up ready to install it must have turned one drive back on.

one time i had one drive running and then one day i got a message that one drive was full and they want me to start paying for storage. i do my own backups and do not need to be paying for storage. so i turned it off in the taskbar settings but today i noticed it again in the explorer folders with gallery and home and so i found out how to uninstall it and then my photos seemed to turn off. i did that reset before i asked here and they did not work so i had to go into apps and photos and re turn on all the extensions for photos i had. then you said to try it again and so i did and sure enough they all went back to the error so again i went to the photos apps and turned them all back on to photo for default. but it was worth the try thanks

Are you able to open the Photos app without clicking on an image?
It should be in your start menu

if i do it want me to sign into one drive. but list of phots do show up and i can open them for there.

I never signed into OneDrive, so I just nuked it in Apps, no problem at all.
