Removing xbox ad and random picture on boot up.

Two things that may be related:

1. When I boot or wake up my computer I see an annoying Xbox ad every time. Is there a way to make that stop?

2. Can I do away with the random picture when Win 11 boots?

Hi Don, Welcome to the Eleven Forum.

Are you referring to the lock screen that you see when you need to log in after computer sleeps?

If so; For the ads, try the following.

  1. Press "Windows logo key :win: + i" on your keyboard to open the Settings app.
  2. From the left panel, click Personalization.
  3. Scroll down on the right hand side to find and click the "Lock Screen" settings.
  4. Under Personalize your lock screen, uncheck the box next to Get fun facts, tips, tricks, and more on your lock screen.

See if this changes the ad situation. For the picture issues, I’ll get back to you or someone will beat me to it. Let us know if I am close to understanding and if the above worked.

Don, for the picture issue, in the same settings page for "Lock Screen" You may have "Windows Spotlight" selected. If so, open that drop down menu, select "Picture" and choose a picture you would like to see permanently. Or you can "Browse Photos" and select a nice picture you want to see.

MS must have either moved or removed that option on the Canary builds. Neither one of my desktops have that option.

Winuser, I don't have that option either. I got the Xbox stuff to go away by uninstalling or turning off every Xbox option. For example turning off the Xbox Gamebar in the Game settings. I don't know exactly which one made it go away, but it did go away.

Ants suggestion cleaned up my lock and login screens. It may have helped with the Xbox stuff too, I just don't know. I didn't do a careful one by one test to see what made it go away. But (so far) it's gone.

The screenshot is from my 23H2 upgrade. They better leave the option to have a clean locked screen, I don’t want to read stupid crap on my desktop when logging in. Or see ads. MS is really testing users.

I’m still running Eleven on the backbone of Ten. I am yet to do a complete independent install of Eleven. I am waiting for the new ISO. Maybe that has something to do with it?

Ah Ants, that may be it. I know they've been adding more options. I'm 'fully' updated on Win 11 Pro and I'm at 22H2. They are probably rolling out that capability.

That would explain why I always see it, I never use Spotlight images.

So that's where they hid it. I selected Pictures and the box was checked.
