REPORT: Microsoft to bring back movable Taskbar on Windows 11



 Windows Central:

As part of Microsoft’s big push to improve sentiment around Windows 11 this year, the company is working on several highly requested features and changes that are designed to signal to the public that it is listening to feedback. According to my sources who are familiar with Microsoft’s plans, one of those features is the ability to move the Taskbar.

The ability to move the Taskbar has been something that users have been asking for since Windows 11 was first announced. It was a feature that has been available to Windows users since Windows 95, but was removed with the debut of Windows 11 in 2021 after the company chose to rebuild the Taskbar from scratch. Five years later, and it seems the company is finally working to bring it back.

I’m told that the Taskbar on Windows 11 will be able to be positioned to the left, right, or top of the display, and the company is working to ensure all the Taskbar flyouts and buttons work as expected when in these alternate orientations. In addition, I understand that Microsoft is also working on the ability to resize the Taskbar, offering users the ability to adjust how much space the Taskbar takes up on screen.

I'd like Microsoft to allow me to compress the fat taskbar to something more reasonable! There's no reason the taskbar has to be this fat, half that height would be more than sufficient!

Stuff that seems like a no brainer you'll notice MS will wait till users are so disgruntled they show up with torches and pitchforks before they'll give them what they've been asking for. 😆

I don't know about the resize thing, but moving my taskbar to the left and spreading it out across the whole bottom of all 3 of my screens (just like W10) was practically the 1st UI change I made last year when I upgraded from W10Pro.....

But I would like it to be slightly narrower horizontally though, if that's what "resize" means :D

This is possible with StartAllBack so seems they havent completely removed the funktion, but “just” hidden it, for whatever reason.

Since I run with two screens and the primary one is 5120x1440, I have a long enough taskbar on the primary monitor for all the tasks, I just want it to take up less space. :whistle:

Seems to me Windows Central is indulging in speculation and repeating a rumour heard. It may well turn out to be true, but we'll all first have to see if MS actually make some sort of official announcement.
