I have to map a drive letter to my router's share by IP address, mine is '\\192.168.1.254\Toshiba 2TB'. Just tested doing so in my MR rescue media.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

Did you connect OK? Did you get that error message when trying to do a restore? TBH, I've never tried to restore from my router's share.

If indeed MR requires a minimum of SMB2 support from the server/share you are connected to, then you are out of luck. The BT Home Hub only supports SMB1 and BT seem to have no plans to update it.

Yep, got that error when trying to restore, so that's the problem. Thanks so much for clarifying. If I ever want to restore that particular image I'll just have to copy it down first.

Usually you don't need that Samba stuff when you use the net use command.
I have to check my configs first
MS has removed the SMB1 support in the WINRE

I just checked this command on my machine:
net use * \\Z440\Backup

and it works.

Well, if necessary that should be possible from within the Reflect rescue media's own Explorer. TBH if I had that issue I'd just unplug the USB HDD from the router, then plug it into the PC ;)

10 years ago that's what I would have done too, but at 86 scrambling under the desk is a nono. Real struggle just to get back up again! :rolleyes:

But my router is easily accessible and all my PCs are laptops, so it shouldn't be too hard to do :wink:
