I recently moved from old Office 2013 to new Office 365 (install version not online) and for some reason when I right click there's no new Word or Excel option in the context menu, I have a few other Office ones but not those two which I really need, I've googled and tried a couple of registry "fixes" but they didn't work for me, wondering if anyone else has resolved this and can advise what to try? Thanks in advance! :)

I would try un-doing the classic context menu tweak, then re-installing Office.
Just a guess. I can't think of anythingthing else that might affect Word and Excel.

I wouldn't think that even the classic context menu would affect that, but I'd assume MS thinks you're on the new context menu.

Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 13 years?
The easiest may be to do a repair. Search for Add or remove programs> Scroll down to Microsoft office> Choose one of the modify/repair options> When complete if it asks for a restart do so> See if the options are there now

2.jpg

The context menu choices usually reside in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\vfs\Windows\SHELLNEW. Assuming both are not there you can use this method to add them

The Word version would be .docx

The repair will generally restore all default context menu items

How did you install Office 365? And you shouldn't need "registry" tweaks to solve this.

Anyway, Office 365 user here with apps locally installed. No missing items here.

You could try the fix A Guy suggested with the repair option. If that doesn't work, try removing and installing the suite again.

    This is my backup system.
Apologies for the delay in replying and thank you to those that offered suggestions, had a 53,000 word project to proofread in less than a week so didn't want to risk killing my Word install, and then forgot to get back to trying to resolve this!

Unfortunately the situation is exactly the same despite trying the above suggestions, removed the context menu tweak, uninstalling and reinstalling office, following that Youtube video (I'd already done that and I have it in the registry exactly as it shows. So I'm at a bit of a loss now...

I had the same problem and have figured out how to fix it.
  1. If you are worried back up your registry.
  2. Regedit HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and go to the item that is missing. (e.g. .docx)
  3. Delete the whole key. That is .docx and everything in it.
  4. Run the Quick repair on Office.
  5. Restart the computer.
