Restore/Remove all registry changes

I'm sure I've seen a Tutorial which removes all changes to the registry from batch file tweaks/hacks, but after some searching, could not find it.

Help would be appreciated.

You can only reset the registry back to a known state if you have an appropriate backup.

No script will really help as the registry is effectively a "dynamic" setup, and depends on what is installed, what build is installed etc.

The easiest way to revert the registry to a known state is to make an image backup of the pc at a known state, then even if registry changes are made, the act of restoring the image will revert any changes.

Of course, any new apps installed since the image backup would also be deleted.

You can use system restore points to some degree as well.

The key point is any script will be bespoke for your situation.

In the end, if you want to manually revert changes you made, you should keep a log, so you can manually revert changes.

I'm sorry, but you've been around this forum for a while. Why would you make changes to the registry without first creating a disc image?

That wouldn't help in all situations. For example installing new programs. @cereberus is correct in saying to keep a log of all registry changes one manually makes.

All the above answers are correct. There is no such tool except for an iso you can use to do a clean install or using recovery to do a reset and remove everything. You would have to remove everything to undo all the changes that span across the entire registry and putting everything back to default. It's the owner's responsibility to keep a system image made BEFORE any changes are made as well as other images along the way as changes are made.

Thanks for the information, in retrospect I must have been thinking of resetting the Local Group Policy Editor.

I have Macrium Reflect Images on 4 separate Portable SSD's, created twice a week since installing Win 11 Pro.

So easily resolved by restoring an earlier one.

As far as a log is concerned, mea culpa, although I do keep a folder on my data drive with all the reg changes from this site, the only ones I trust.

Your explanation made a lot of sense, so thanks again.

If you read my reply to @cereberus , you will see that I have MR images galore, I rarely make any changes to anything without creating a new image.

You could just backup the hives and restore those without restoring an image

Some tweaking programs will give you the option to reset all changes made with the program.
For example, Winaero Tweaker can do that.

From here, as a practice, when I download the reg tweak to do, I also download the reg tweak to undo, which are always available in the tutorials.
I have a very organised Tweaks folder by category with do/undo/link to tutorial. Each tweak has its own folder.

Anything not from here, I make notes in a notepad file in a folder with the link to where I got the tweak and what the tweak was as well as the reg change included.
