Does anyone know anything about the backup program called Rewind?
I use an external drive not the cloud but I wanted an opinion on its security. You don't get much at its site So I'm counting on someone who has used it or has experience with it.

There are several well known reliable tools e.g. Macrium Reflect, Easeus Todo, Aomei Backupper, Hasleo Backup to name a few.

There are a number of lesser known tools but I take the view that if a tool is not well known, then its user base is probably not that large and what level of service can one expect from the vendor?

To me, good support is a crucial element of any backup tool.

I am not sure what your question about security is actually about - what is your concern?

Some of the better imaging tools are developed in China but there is no evidence to suggest those tools are used for "spying" or have hidden malware etc.

The Chinese programs like Aomei etc I liked for ease but they do dial home. Easeus and Haslo are included. I have Chinese pats in my pc likely.
Currently use RescueZilla but at times it bothers me and takes awhile. It does the job though.
I'll look for that gem.
I used to use Macrium 8 but am against subscriptions like reflect 110 at my advanced age.

I believe it's safe say in this day and time, the bulk of software out there dial home in one way or another unless the user blocks them in hosts or firewall.
Some won't work until they have dialed home.

The majority of us here are of advanced age so don't let that hold you back. Don't let software made in foreign countries be of a worry to you either just because of the governments of those countries. Bad actors are from everywhere and can get into your computer in a lot of ways. I don't have a concern they will do it through legitimate, well known software. If it's works well for me, I go for it..

With Macrium, I don’t think you can back up and restore. Are you sure about this?
You can restore previously backed up images, but you can’t create an image and restore it Good try if it worked

Macrium v8 FREE and v8.1 LICENSED work just fine as far as Imaging/restoration are concerned. There's just no active support going on for either one.

Yeah it is only V10 (VX) that reverts to restore mode only if you do not keep the licence active (i.e. not pay subscription).

I’ve never tried Rewind, so I can’t comment on it. It looks like it is catered for the business community.
