Solved Right click menu shows but very slow to open

When I right click on a folder on my desktop the menu opens but it takes like 2 to3 seconds to open. Only doing this on a Folder though. If I right click on my taskbar or an open space on my desktop the menu opens immediately. Just folders or shortcut Icons it loads slow. So I tried going into the registry here....HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT > Directory > Background > Shellex > ContextMenuHandlers ....and deleted everything except New and Workfolder. Didnt help the folder right click menu showing slow though. Anyone else have this issue and if you found a fix please let me know thank you.

I had that problem (or one very like it) a couple of years ago, and fixed it by using Nir Sofer's ShellExView program. Tiny, requires no installation, and gives you a close-up of things in there that you might have missed in your registry weeding. Sofer says this about it:

The ShellExView utility displays the details of shell extensions
installed on your computer, and allows you to easily disable and enable
each shell extension.

ShellExView can be used for solving context-menu problems in Explorer
environment. For more information, read the following article:

You might give it a try. Nirsoft.net.

Just get rid of that Show more options right click menu, and start using the full right click menu. It should take care of your issue.

In my opinion, your mouse is the culprit. Perhaps you should upgrade it. A feature called REPORT RATE (per second) can be utilized.

Not likely. I had the exact same problem as the OP. When I installed W11 the lack of a full context menu was the second thing I noticed after my desktop and personal folders were integrated with OneDrive.

I came here looking for a solution then to enable the full context menu when right clicking. Like most tweaks, it'll either break something or cause other issues. Upgrading your mouse is unnecessary and inappropriate. If anything you could've suggested trying another mouse but if you read completely what the OP wrote, you would come to the logical conclusion it's not hardware related.

W11 loves animation. Despite other tweaks, it'll still slow you down. Even the Explorer is this way and a workaround is to maximize your Explorer screen and press F11 again. This will speed up Explorer. No mouse upgrade needed. And I have no idea what you meant by REPORT RATE. I doubt most others understand too.

not sure why you've got this problem -- There might be all sorts of things I don't like about Windows 11 but sluggish or poor performance isn't actually one of them. Most hideous performance usually (not always though) comes from poor / slow Disks, sluggish graphics, not enough ram, incredibly resource intensive 3rd party Anti Virus software, and trying to run too many concurrent applications. Also a lot of tweaking with things like paging files if done incorrectly will reduce performance. Some things are just better left for Windows to sort itself out.

I would have thought that by now, everyone here would have learned about the fix for the short Context Menu.

Given history, the gurus who work at Microsoft aren't about to sort this out. There are plenty of examples and how the trend is to add new features but ignore most of the bugs that a select few who happen to be observant may notice.

While disabling the "Show more options right-click menu" (for those who enabled it via tweak from this site) might do the trick in most cases, it's not a complete solution. For example, I have a PDF shortcut on my desktop, and when I right-clicked on it, it took nearly 3 seconds for the options to pop up. However, when I tried it again, it was almost instant the second time around. Repeating this about a dozen times it sometimes would take about a second. In contrast, right clicking application shortcuts are virtually (almost) instant always (after the registry removal tweak).

It's worth noting that some people are more ~~patient~~ tolerant than others and don't mind waiting. I remember reading a forum post where someone complained that it took over 65 seconds to open a PDF statement from a financial institution. In response, a bunch of troublemakers and trolls piled on, criticizing the original poster for their complaint. They even gaslighted saying to out for coffee and by the time you come back, it will populate. This is a bug with the financial institution's website affecting some.

In a somewhat unrelated scenario, a poster online suggested a feature for Google Calendar to include a conflict scheduling warning. But one particularly nasty troll commented, basically saying that Google (or the app) wasn't meant to do your thinking for you (paraphrasing).

The bottom line is that people have different thresholds for what they notice or find bothersome. It's a reflection of how unpredictable and, in most cases, unhinged the world is these days. But, that's a whole other topic.
