Samsung Begins Official Rollout of One UI 8 to Galaxy Devices

 Samsung Newsroom:

Samsung Electronics today announced the official rollout of One UI 8 — introducing advanced multimodal AI capabilities, a UX optimized for different device form factors and personalized, proactive suggestions to make everyday life smarter and more convenient. Starting this week with the Galaxy S25 series, One UI 8 will also reach the Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy Z Fold6, Galaxy Z Flip6, Galaxy S24 FE and additional eligible models later this year.

Personalized Suggestions With Advanced Security

One UI 8 recognizes the user’s context, offering personalized, proactive suggestions that support their unique daily routines. And as Galaxy AI becomes more intelligent, so does its commitment to protecting private data. One UI 8 combines advanced personalization tools with top-tier security features, anticipating user needs while keeping information safe.
  • Now Bar shows real-time app activity and media player progress directly on Galaxy Z Flip’s FlexWindow, and is also now integrated with even more third-party apps.
  • Now Brief provides even more personalized daily updates including traffic, important reminders and Samsung Moments, which allows users to reflect on their daily routines. They can also get personalized suggestions and recommendations, such as music and video picks based on subscriptions and interests. In addition, personalized health insights from Galaxy Watch are also easily accessible.
  • Knox Enhanced Encrypted Protection (KEEP) is a new security architecture designed to safeguard the next generation of AI experiences used by Galaxy’s Personal Data Engine (PDE). KEEP creates encrypted, app-specific storage environments within the device, ensuring each app can only access its own sensitive information.
  • Knox Matrix takes security a step further by automatically signing devices out of the Samsung Account if flagged for serious risks. It sends notifications across connected Galaxy devices and gives additional guidance on how to protect data.
  • Upgraded Secure Wi-Fi with post-quantum cryptography (PQC) encompasses a new cryptographic framework designed to strengthen network protection against emerging threats, helping to ensure robust privacy — even over public networks.

Intelligent Multimodality: AI That Works the Way the User Does

Samsung-Mobile-One-UI-8-Rollout-Galaxy-AI-Multimodal-AI-Galaxy-S25-series_main2.jpg

Powered by multimodal AI designed to deliver experiences tailored to user needs, One UI 8 transforms the way users interact with Galaxy devices. By combining visual, auditory and contextual intelligence, it makes everyday tasks intuitive and effortless.
  • Gemini Live allows for natural, seamless communication with AI that understands what the user is seeing or watching in real-time, without the need for switching between apps.
  • Circle to Search with Google gives in-the-moment gaming help when the user circles anything on the screen during game-play. It provides more information about characters and strategies to help the user navigate to the exact spot in the game, with helpful links and videos from across the web to explore further. With Circle to Search’s improved translation capabilities, users can see translated text in real-time as they scroll and interact with the screen. From news articles to social media posts, they will see instant, on-screen translations of the underlying text in their preferred language.

UX Optimized for Multiple Form Factors

Samsung-Mobile-One-UI-8-Rollout-Galaxy-AI-Multimodal-AI-Galaxy-S25-series_main3.jpg

One UI 8 redefines versatility with UX optimized across the Galaxy product portfolio. Designed to adapt to the unique form factors of Galaxy smartphones and tablets, One UI 8 ensures seamless functionality while boosting productivity and efficiency.
  • AI Results View displays results from AI features in a separate Split View or Floating View, keeping their original content visible and unobstructed.
  • Thanks to Galaxy AI Optimized for Large Screens, Multi Window lets users drag and drop AI-generated content — including images and text — directly into their workflow. Tools like Drawing Assist and Writing Assist unlock an even smoother creative process, as users can move ideas and visuals around more easily than ever before.
  • Gemini Live is now available directly on Flip’s FlexWindow for hands-free voice search, acting as a personal assistant right on the cover screen.
  • Audio Eraser proactively detects and removes unwanted background noise, like wind or traffic, with a single tap on a new toggle in video apps and audio apps.
  • Featuring a new clock design that stretches and adapts to match the user’s wallpaper. The clock’s font wraps around faces or contours, ensuring visibility without disrupting the image, whether it’s a close-up selfie or a picture of pets. Users can also customize the thickness, size and color of the font to meet their personal taste.
  • With advanced customization even for FlexWindow, users can easily create a wallpaper by receiving recommendations and auto-curated wallpapers from the Gallery. Emojis and background colors are also customizable for FlexWindow Emojis wallpaper.
One UI 8 also provides AI-powered tools like Portrait Studio, which can capture the vibrant expressions of pets and then generate artistic, studio-like pet portraits. Users can also enjoy seamless communication in noisy environments with Call Captions — which instantly converts voices into text during calls — as well as keyboard inputs when using Interpreter, which allows users to translate ideas by typing.

Got the update a couple days ago on my S24+ and I'm not real happy. Battery drain is too fast even with all of the toys turned off. Samsung Galaxy form is very active right now with a variety of issues, battery drain being a big one.

Wish I could roll it back.
Try wiping the cache partition, that got my S22 battery back to normal.

I just did the instructions in this video:

My check list for optimal battery life:
• Uninstall every useless/unnecessary app
• Disable every useless/unnecessary service
• Use Dark Mode everywhere
• Use dark home screen wallpaper
• Always close idle background apps
• Completely disable notifications for all apps, (except necessary ones)
• Reboot the device on a regular basis, (once a week)
• Use Ram Plus and purge the RAM manually when necessary
• Put rarely used apps into Deep Sleep Mode

(there's more, but I can't think of them all right now!!!)

I often wonder what's more effective, purging the RAM or wiping the cache.
If a certain app's cache is not being called upon, it shouldn't affect battery life. 🤷‍♂️
I could be wrong, though.

I had that problem and found that contact cleaner and a tooth pick solved it although you probably tried that sort of thing.
I actually did find that there was some grunge stuck on the contacts of the USB-C connector. I had to clean it with Isopropyl Alcohol to get it off, then the port worked. Of course, I already had another phone, so now I have a spare.

After that discovery, I bought some USB-C protection plugs for all my family's phones...

Hey, those USB-C plugs look like a good idea. Look small enough to fit in the phone cover opening as well.

I just cleaned mine using one of those little bristle tipped GUM dental floss brushes moistened with alcohol. Perfect fit for USB-C port lol. I finally found a use for the dental office samples I have Lol.

I just cleaned mine using one of those little bristle tipped GUM dental floss brushes moistened with alcohol. Perfect fit for USB-C port lol. I finally found a use for the dental office samples I have Lol.
Thanks for the tip (no pun intended). I'll pick some up the next time I go to Wally World. :-)

Why USA UI8 updates are taking so long!

Samsung updates typically take longer in the US than in Europe primarily due to the significant involvement and approval process required by US mobile carriers. In contrast, European updates are often released directly by Samsung to a consolidated regional firmware, bypassing extensive carrier-specific testing.

Reasons for Delays in the USA

Carrier Vetting Process:
In the US, most phones are sold through carriers (like AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon), who view themselves as the primary technical support providers. This gives them leverage to demand they test and approve every software update to ensure compatibility with their specific network services and infrastructure (including older, non-standard technologies like CDMA). This testing phase can add weeks or even months to the update timeline.

Carrier Customization & Bloatware: US carrier versions of Samsung phones often come with pre-installed carrier-specific apps (bloatware) and unique software tweaks. Updates must be customized for these variations and pass compatibility tests for each carrier's specific modifications, a process that is not as prevalent in Europe.

Hardware/Modem Differences: US models often use different cellular modems (e.g., Snapdragon chipsets due to licensing/compatibility issues) compared to international or European versions (which historically used Exynos). This necessitates distinct software development and testing streams for the US hardware, slowing down the process.

Market Structure: The US market is heavily dominated by carrier-locked phones. Even unlocked US models sometimes have to wait until all the major carriers have approved the update, compounding the delays.

Reasons for Faster Updates in Europe
Consolidated Regional Firmware:
Samsung has moved towards a single "EUX" identifier, or a single Country Specific Code (CSC), for many devices across different European countries. This allows the company to release updates simultaneously for a large number of users, rather than developing and testing country-by-country versions.

Less Carrier Interference: Unlocked phones are more common in Europe, and carriers generally have much less control over the update process. Updates are typically distributed directly by Samsung, reducing the extra layer of testing and approval required in the US.

Staggered Global Rollout: Samsung generally staggers its updates globally to avoid overloading its servers. The initial rollouts often start in specific regions, which may include European countries or South Korea, to catch potential bugs before a wider release.

Overall

In essence, the fragmented, carrier-controlled nature of the US mobile market creates a more complex and time-consuming process for rolling out software updates compared to the more streamlined approach in Europe.

Wouldn't it be great if US could streamline like Europe?

Note: Carrier Locking is pretty much a thing of the past in Europe.

Well at last UI8 for my S22+ (S906U1 - US Unlocked XAA version) and has no Carrier Bloat.
This had the yukky semi transparent short cuts menu as well.
It seems this model will get UI8.5 so I hope they give option to remove transparency.

Not really a UI8 issue but nowhere in Android could I find a setting to keep screen on permanently without some user input. I have (free) Karta GPS for driving which is nice and does not need Internet during operation (just when downloading maps).

Problem was after 10 mins, screen kept turning off. You can keep screen on if charging in developers option but that is not convenient without cables loose in car.

I found a really simple 3rd Party App called "Keep Alive" and you can toggle it on or off.

With it on, you can set a screen time longer than 10 minutes, or just keep it on. This works perfectly even for long journeys (obviously you need to charge phone at some point).

I actually use an old obsolete(ish) android with nothing on it rather than literally Karta GPS and has a pay and go sim (for emergencies). If phone gets stolen, I will just block it using Google Find.
