Save As is Missing

I don't know when it went missing, but I can no longer "save as". Instead I get a plain "save", and "save as PDF". And, of course it wants me to save to One Drive!

I understand the latest updates in Windows 11 have messed things up. Is this one of those?

I have not read anything about that issue.
You could always try to create another user and use that login to see if the problem is also present.
That would eliminate a user registry issue if you get the same issue.

That could be it, the OP did not mention it was an MSO document.
You want to uncheck the top AutoSave in the cloud one &check the last one, Save to computer by default.

Hello Wynona :-)

Whilst in Word, if you press Fn+F12 or just F12, does the save as dialogue box appear? Ctrl+Shift+S should also open it?

If you don’t want to save to OneDrive:

Go to File > Options > Save, uncheck "AutoSave OneDrive and SharePoint Online files by default," and check "Save to Computer by default," setting a local folder, then restart Word to apply the changes.

The caveat is that Autosave will no longer work. Autosave only works if you save to OneDrive.

Upon further searching, I find that Save As has been replaced by "Save a Copy" which is nowhere to be found when I click on File, hoping to be able to save it to the proper folder.

What happens when you create a new doc and just close Word - is Save as option offered?
What happens in non-Office programs (e.g. Notepad)?

Do you actually use OneDrive? What are the settings in Word for saving (in Word, File menu > Options >Save)?

Go to File > Options > Save, uncheck "AutoSave OneDrive and SharePoint Online files by default," and check "Save to Computer by default," setting a local folder, then restart Word to apply the changes.

The caveat is that Autosave will no longer work. Autosave only works if you save to OneDrive.

How are you opening the document? From within Word, from Explorer, from shortcut? Above description is similar to trying to save an already opened elsewhere document. Reboot computer and retry

Save As is still Save As in Word - Office 2021.

Generally if you see “Save A Copy” it’s because the Word document you’re editing is Read Only.

You want to uncheck the top AutoSave in the cloud one &check the last one, Save to computer by default.

Thank you very much, OAT! I had visited there before, but didn't quite hit the mark. Your instructions helped me get on track. I now have Save As back!

Now, my next project will be to go through the Gazillion files that have been saved to OneDrive without my knowledge or permission.

Being down and away from the computer for almost three years has dealt a huge blow to my knowledge. Now I know why they say, "Use it or lose it.'! -:(
