Script for gaming - close all programs and apps

hello, windows 11 installed is there a script that i can use to close apps running while gaming. my rig is pretty beefy but just want to make sure things run more smoothly. via command line tasklist then kill task but is there something more of a batch script or powershell script that will close tasks that are running like for instance MS edge is not open but it still shows in task manager running with multiple processes.

You could very well (Possibly) create a shortcut to a task that runs a batch to close all apps and then launch a particular game. Not my department. There are people here that may be able to help.

The C# program that you linked cannot close an application gracefully either. Instead, it just lets you specify a list of process names to be skipped so any running processes whose name is not on the list will still receive the hard kill treatment immediately when you run the program. The PowerShell command is much shorter and therefore much easier to read, at least for anyone who is slightly familiar with PowerShell. You can adapt the command like so:
Get-Process |? {$_.MainWindowTitle -ne "" -and $_.Id -ne $PID -and $_.ProcessName -notin "explorer", "name1", "name2", "name3"} | Stop-Process -Force
This will make it skip the explorer process and also make it skip any other processes that you specify in the array.

This method certainly has its merits. However, since we are talking about gaming, one possible downside is that it will kick you out of your voice chat session.

To rapidly quit multiple applications gracefully at once with not too much effort, I prefer to use this:
"Middle click to close on the taskbar" (taskbar-button-click) Windhawk mod

Windows suspends the activity of background processes when running games.
Your application programs have something like this and just close them manually.
